jesus some people are morons.
i'm listening to a radio program and they're discussing Ned Stark's death and how one of the host's girlfriend is going to stop watching if Stark is really dead next episode. and one guy called in and said the show had bad ratings so they're only going to make one season and needed a reason to end the show with a huge battle which is why Stark was killed off. Neither of the hosts watch the show so they couldn't really say he was wrong so he kept going on and on about how the show was too hard to follow and that's why it's getting cancelled and the main hero was killed.
I wanted to call in/carl face/murder this guy so badly.] 6/15/2011 2:37:53 PM |

They will absolutely watch it, they are just throwing a tantrum. Maybe if more of these people read books instead of only watching movies, they might actually expand their minds a little. I think what the author did was great, finally some originality for once. They will watch the next episode, and will make popcorn to watch episode 1 of season 2.

I was VERY surprised when Ned got killed at the end of last episode, but why are people (like these idiot callers) so attached to him? IMO, there are at least 3-4 better characters. I liked him a lot as a sort of anchor to everything, and that's why his death was so shocking, but it's not like he was the most interesting. 6/15/2011 4:16:10 PM |

well he seemed like the deepest character right now, i like what they did (well what GRRM did but they agreed with it) but it's kind of risky especially for tv, you have to know the other characters and actors are at a certain level to compensate
it's funny all the sex articles that are coming out about the show, in fact I was going to say I think there were a different set of boobs each episode but I guess not quite http://www.mrskin.com/game-of-thrones-nude-scenes-t48254.html#t=media, still though it seems like there have been at least 8 different nude scenes so far6/15/2011 8:24:11 PM |

They've been farting around for too long with the Lannister/Stark tension. Something had to give to finally get a war kicked off. If Ned was too "honorable" to do something about it, it was time for him to go. Robb is licking his chops to kick some blondie ass. 6/15/2011 8:40:07 PM |

Ned's the only truly good man we've seen in this entire show so far. Sure, it's entertaining to watch the whole world scheme for... whatever it is they want, but Ned was good, and we all liked that about him. that's why we hated to see him go 6/15/2011 9:35:03 PM |

Ned isn't particularly good. He didn't have pity on that guy in the first episode who was running from white walkers. He is just an extreme rule-follower, which is a fucking dumb thing to be both in fiction and in real life.
Now, Jon Snow would be a good guy.

Ned was extremely honorable, and was quite good.

Haven't read the books, but I suspect that a large portion of the audience was so shocked at Ned's dying because he was so frequently displayed as the lead character. Virtually every magazine/news/web article I saw about the show before and after its debut featured some image of him prominently. I'll admit I went into it assuming he was the main character of the series.
That said, Peter Dinklage is far and away my favorite person in the series. 6/15/2011 11:52:41 PM |

one thing I've noticed is the series loves to throw a lot of different characters at you, seems like a couple new are introduced every episode, I guess that's part of their strategy when they keep killing off old characters, btw the hbo site should put big Xs on the dead people lol 6/16/2011 2:07:50 AM |

Sean Bean was the only actor that people have seen in other things. That's why people are identifying with him the most. If they got an obscure actor to play Ned like they did with most of the other characters, I don't think people would be so up in arms about it. You expect the big name actor's character to stick around. 6/16/2011 6:42:14 AM |

^ While this is mostly true, I do specifically remember an interview with GRRM promoting the TV series where he himself says that Ned Stark is THE main character. This was before the series even started. I looked at dubcaps right after we saw and that's when we both realized how hard people were going to take it. 6/16/2011 8:47:09 AM |

The first thing I thought about when Ned was killed was the promise he made to Jon Snow, specifically that he would share information about his mother when they next meet.
I wouldnt be surprised if Snow somehow works his way up the chain to the throne, bastard aside, he is doing a fine job networking in fantasy land, and he hasnt made any real enemies yet. 6/16/2011 10:41:37 AM |

In the book he's nowhere close to the main character. Even in the scenes in King's Landing where he's the prominent Stark figure you spend so much of your time reading about the royal family, the spider, LittleFinger, and reading about Arya's dancing lesssons that he hardly seems to be the focal point of anything.
And Ned Stark did the right thing, all the time, every time. I think it's interesting that the second he decides to put his honor aside for his family, that he dies. Come to think of it, that might be an emerging theme. Go through a personality altering life change -> die. 6/16/2011 9:13:26 PM |

Kinda tough to have character development if this is so. This is part of the reason I didn't care for the book. Everything seemed way too fractured, too many characters rotating through, too much silly political drama. I don't think I'll continue with the books, but I will watch the show.6/17/2011 11:12:58 AM |

I definitely do not think that is true in the books enough at all to make a blanket statement likethat.
Also, there is a lot of character development; that is one of the things he does BEST in that series. At least imho.
Anyway, looking forward to this finale Sunday. Can't believe it is already the last episode after waiting so long

To be fair, it's pretty good.
I've never gotten into fantasy, sci-fi fantasy, star trek... hell, even Star Wars, in the past. But this show fascinates me and is really well written/acted.
It's like Braveheart with a touch of fantasy involved IMO. Love it.
