Ad is unaffiliated, however, I figured someone might want some tires for cheap.

Damn, that Subaru is a good find (though how much does a head gasket run?). The best color too!
Those tires would fit my S2000 pretty easily, though I'm sure it'd be a significant handling downgrade 1/22/2010 9:07:39 AM |

zxappeal, could probably do the head gaskets for you (remember there are 2)
not sure if this car needs both or not
you could probably pick that up for ~$3k if you went there with cash

I'd be weary of any car that needs head gaskets unless I really felt I could trust the person on whether or not it has been allowed to overheat. That thing might have warped/cracked heads or a warped block which would easily negate any savings you might be expecting.
The good thing is that as long as none of those things are messed up you'd end up with a car that has new head gaskets, new water pump/timing belt (you'd be a fool not to go ahead and do those things while everything is apart), fresh coolant, and fresh oil when you're done. Should be good to go for a long time to come after doing those updates.
I bet that thing is filthy though. Look at the floor mats.

that car alone is worth 3k, with no motor
everyone wants one and ppl with one, want another, just to have 2
you can pick up a replacement SOHC long block (low mileage from junk yard) for ~$1k, with an albeit, short, warranty
put it in yourself in an afternoon
sell the car for $6k or drive it 1/22/2010 11:21:07 AM |

Good cars, I work at a subaru shop and I see them all the time. There are a handful of head gasket failures, but it is not a hard fix, you can yank the engine in about 30 minutes if you are used to it. if you can find it XT (turbo) are a nice choice if you can find them.
My sister has two of them (foresters) never had a problem with them, my parents just got a 09 and both my wife and I have WRXs (well hers is a Saab 9-2 but same thing).
PM me if you have any specific questions.

This car has been my baby for awhile, but wonderful circumstances have caused me to make a painful decision, to sell him. What we have is as follows: 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 2.2L high output 4 cyl boxer engine AWD (amazing traction, all the time) Manual 5spd. apx 190k miles (on a subaru this is nothing!) does come with rear liner (Plastic liner for rear hatch floor) Msn Autos Description, statistics, and ratings
The good: Brand new Brakes and Oil change! Clean interior.
The bad: It will need to have the new tires mounted, along with an alignment, To have the clutch installed (still moves, pressure plate is going bad), To have the struts installed, New cv axle, new 02 sensor, Exhaust leak fixed.
Available for purchase (10% below http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/ price) Struts (4 KYB Gr2 gas), Tires (Bridgestone potenza pole position 205/65/15 brand new!), Clutch (Exedy stage 1!) When you do the clutch, you will have to remove the old 02 sensor, the cv axle, and the struts to get to it. Most shops will not charge to just put the new ones in instead! Everything else is in tip top!" |

it does have 94k miles on it, not terrible, but definitely not collector car miles
if it's a clean title with an accident on the carfax, and figuring this economy...
and the seller was strapped and needing to sell badly...
still should sell for more than 21 or 22k
all the ones I've seen less than 20 have been salvage title 1/28/2010 2:53:41 PM |

It has 144k miles BUT dont let that worry you as the car looked to have been very well mainteined and that only works out to 12k a year. The car runs and drives great, everything works, A/C blows cold and the Alpine cd player sounds great. The car WAS NOT damaged before I did the kit AND the only things cut off the car were the stock quarter panels. This car is still the STOCK wheel base and had not been hacked up.
