My rudimentary understanding of it is that we're okay as long as they finish out the semester academically and don't just bolt not finish their classes.

But I could be wrong...

It's irrelevant now...because he didn't even consider us. But I'm going to venture a wild guess that Illinois has a law school.

obviously we don't have a law school...so "in the mix" might just mean that we talked to him and wanted him, but it was never going to work out.

Word. We weren't mentioned in the first article I found. I think he would have been a perfect replacement for Painter.

It will be interesting to see who we round out this class with and if we go after more graduate students.

i don't know much about the guy, but seems like he could have definitely helped us. it'd be nice to pick a 1 year transfer if we can.

especially undeservedly

I love our team, but i think it's a joke that everyone is picking us to win the ACC unless we add some frontcourt players before the season begins

It's not surprising that we are ranked #18 by cbs considering that Jeff Goodman has a blood feud with the scholars over at Packpride.

i feel better about us being ranked that high than i do about UNC. They have no frontcourt experience. They have mcadoo, but he really is just hype right now and they don't really have anyone else.

I feel like the 15 to 25 range is more reasonable for us than top 10. Granted we got a lot better at the end of last season but Georgetown was the only really good team we beat.

True, but everyone ahead of us lost a lot of talent. Ignoring last year, it's tough to find more than 5 teams who have more talent returning than we do.

Yeah but we also lost a lot of talent and just because they were role players people don't seem to notice. It can't be said enough, but losing AJ, DP, and CJW is huge. And who do we have to replace them? Sure we have a seasoned TDT and 3 burger boys, but is tyler Lewis really going to come in and perform just as well as AJ? There are still some big questions.

Yes, was this a serious question?

Dude was the PG for the best team in the nation and a McD's AA.

AJ was a transfer from CSU-Bakersfield.

I liked AJ for his tenacity, but I don't doubt for a second that Lewis will be able to take over his role. I just can't wait to see Lewis in a few years, he has a ridiculous basketball IQ.

Nobody bashed Johnson. We're saying that a top-50 pg recruit will be able to step in and replace his 15 minutes of relief duty.

My biggest concern is the depth of our big men. Leslie and Howell are great, but often get in foul trouble. Now we don't have Painter to take some minutes. If we get Jefferson or somebody else it would make me feel a lot better about this fall.

Lewis will be as good as Johnson for sure. That's silly.

Purvis will probably be as good as CJW and has at least a 50% chance to be better.

Painter is a definite loss, but Howell/CJL figure to be able to play more minutes next year I would think.

So our hopes rest on growth from Lorenzo (definite), CJL (definite), Howell (some) Wood (prob not much), Vandy (some), TDT (still probably unplayable) and getting something out of TJ Warren (prob playable, but not that good)

Top 10 is optimistic, but top 25 should happen.

We're definitely the favorites in the ACC as of right now. It would take some major injuries or regression from our players for us not to be a top 25 team.

^^^oops, thanks. so are there any other uncommitted big-men recruits that we're (knowingly involved with?

and while I'm pretty certain that Lewis will be (considerably) a better pg than Johnson, Alex was a 5th-yearer and one of the strongest guys on the team. I still think it might take Lewis a year to transition into the ACC. I hope he proves me wrong.

^Jefferson is the only one I've heard of us being involved with. I don't know if there's a chance of us going after a 5th year transfer, like Alex Johnson, or not.

Quick reality check.

Last Season's Line-up
Zo
CJW
Wood
Leslie
Howell
Bench: Painter, AJ

Next Season's Line-up
Zo
Purvis
Wood
Leslie
Howell
Bench: Lewis, Warren, TDT, Vandy

We were a pretty decent team last year, right? Guess what? We return 4 out of 5 starters. The bench has been upgraded with at least two more burger boys. Stop worrying about next season and just enjoy where we are compared to this time last season. If you want something to worry about, think about the 2013 season...
