It finished airing weeks ago. You should know better than to read a thread about it when its completed airing.
Not to mention its already been spoiled as the book has been out for years.
If you haven't seen it, don't read the fucking thread. 7/4/2011 3:10:33 PM |

It could be one of those things where Ned played honorable throughout the series bringing complete disaster down upon his house and the realm, and with his head on the chopping block, realized that for once he would not do the honorable thing to save his two children. Besides, I think at that point, most people assumed he would simply be exiled (the rational thing) instead of executed since his execution was guaranteed to bring the realm into war.

Agreed. Ned thought he had the situation secured with the City Watch, and out of honor or mercy, he was giving Cersei the chance to go into exile rather than face the wrath of a violent, drunkard husband who had no love for her and would probably be utterly ruthless to her and the children when he found out the truth.7/5/2011 11:59:57 AM |

That map is basically perfectly accurate because it's just a stylized version of the official map in the books.
It's the world map by the same guy that is questionably accurate.

Quote : | "Two of the most important roles for the upcoming second season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" have been cast, with producers snagging their Stannis Baratheon and Melisandre. According to EW.com, Stephen Dillane and Carice van Houten have landed the key parts. Stannis Baratheon is brother to the late King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). More specifically, he's the eldest living Baratheon brother, which means he thinks he has a very strong claim on the Iron Throne. In the George R.R. Martin novels, Stannis is morally rigid and assertive leader with a strong sense of strategy, but no ability to win the hearts of his men. Stannis is also in the middle of a spiritual conversion, with Melisandre as the very powerful woman with more than a little influence over the aspiring king and his shifting faith.
"Game of Thrones" will resume production next Monday. The show's stars and producers will be at San Diego's Comic-Con on Thursday. A Tony winner for "The Real Thing," Dillane also earned an Emmy nod for his work as Thomas Jefferson on HBO's "John Adams." His feature credits include "King Arthur," "The Hours" and "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Van Houten had her breakout role in Paul Verhoven's "Black Book." She's subsequently been seen in "Valkyrie" and "Repo Men."" |

Stephen Dillane is obviously a great actor and will do a great job in the role of Stannis, but I pictured Stannis being bigger and more muscular than Dillane.
That petty complaint aside, though, I'm sure Dillane and everyone else will do a good job.
Edit: Also a little surprised they didn't cast at least one semi-big name to try to draw more attention to the show. Not that that's a bad thing, by any stretch.

I never pictured Brienne as a giant... more of a taller woman (5'10" - 6') who was built like a bull. Broad shoulders, not chest, etc.. and with a not so attractive face. The girl the have has a nice face, and seems to lithe and tall... but we will see.
The rest of the casting is great. Personally, I never pictured Stanis as very muscular, just stern and cold. 7/20/2011 10:52:29 AM |

And Stannis I pictured just like that, skinny and angry looking. He never is really described as the best warrior. 7/20/2011 12:02:32 PM |

grrm on brienne casting:
Quote : | "This was another one of those cases where there was hardly any debate. The day the first batch of auditions went up for the role, we looked at a dozen actresses who were reading for Brienne and one actress who WAS Brienne. Gwendoline gave a great reading, and her look was just perfect. No, when she auditioned, she did not look she does in the photo above. She came in looking... well, like Brienne." |

^^^^^ I don't have a link or anything, but I know I read in interviews with the producers that they will not change the name. "Game of Thrones" will be the name of the series. It's still an appropriate title for the way the rest of the series would go, and there's no need to complicate things by changing the name.
Wish I could remember where, but I've read a lot of interviews about the series. 7/20/2011 3:11:10 PM |

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/08/02/game-of-thrones-greyjoy-asha/
Quote : | "But wait, there’s more! With the Game of Thrones season two cast, you also get Theon Greyjoy’s bold sister Asha (except we’re not going to call her that).
Producers have tapped Gemma Whelan (Gulliver’s Travels, The Wolfman) to play Asha Yara Greyjoy, the older sister of the Stark family’s impulsive young ward Theon. Yara defies the Ironborn traditions of her family by commanding her own ship and leading men into battle, as well as having a penchant for axes.
Producers changed the character’s name from Asha to Yara presumably because the former sounds too much like another character in the show, Osha (they did the same with young Lord Robert in the Eyrie in season one, changing his name to Robin as not to confuse him with King Robert Baratheon)." |
