Watched Children of the Corn last night. That movie has not aged well, specifically the special effects and child acting. It's cool that it's mostly set in daylight hours, but it just can't supply the dread that more modern movies do. Also, YMMV, but it's surreal seeing a movie zero non-white actors.
If I haven't mentioned it yet, something I loved in recent movies was Honeymoon, starring Rose Leslie (Ygritte from GoT). Go into it blind; trailers will likely spoil parts. 6/6/2016 8:55:37 AM |

Not a movie but I started watching the Scream TV series this past weekend. Somewhat entertaining, thought I don't think it's worthy of the 4.9/5 star rating it currently has on Netflix. Makes me wonder if there was some kind of internet campaign to get that rating so high...

Also the acting in it was always terrible.6/6/2016 12:47:26 PM |

I figured as much, but it still feels bizarre. Even the agency among the characters was interesting. The male lead's all, "You wait here. It's not safe. No time to explain." ::wanders a mile or more from where he left her::
Or like Sarah having the gift of sight but it being mostly useless leading to Job-y doing all the legwork

not sure if it qualifies as "horror" or not, but:
Goodnight Mommy
Also about to watch The Witch
oh and talked about one "gimmick" movie on previous page, another one on Netflix Instant is Hush. Premise is deaf lady in a remote house stalked by a killer. Not supernatural, but good.

Get Out was good, but it was way over-hyped.
If you haven't seen It Follows, I highly recommend it. I go running at night around my neighborhood, and several times after watching that movie I got the heebie jeebies while running.
The Conjuring 2 had one of the freakiest villains I think I've ever seen in a horror movie. The Witch was a very good slow burn. It wasn't scary, but the constant feeling of dread was done really well. Also, they really make you feel the family's sense of isolation.

I watched V/H/S based on this thread and it was pretty bad. I mean I guess it was okay if you don't mind a lot of footage thrown together with no cohesive plot, but I kept waiting for the stories to tie together and they just didn't.

I enjoyed V/H/S 2 on a Netflix viewing. Yeah the tie together plot was meh, but didn’t really care.
Also saw The Void and liked it. Very old school and Carpenter like. 10/14/2017 12:06:39 PM |

VHS Viral was AWFUL. There was only one halfway decent story in it (the dimensional portal one).
I liked the first two movies though. I really liked the last story in the first one.
I watched The Void a few months ago. I though it was overhyped and meh. The Witch is pretty good. The ending was fucking awesome. 10/16/2017 2:32:31 PM |

Watched 'Cube' on Netflix last night. The movie had a lot of hype from people I talked to, but I thought it was just OK. The movie is more about character development in a terrible situation. I guess my main issue is that there is some mystery in solving the problem that is the "Cube", but its all done at a level where the viewer cannot participate. The characters just figure it out and explain it out loud. 10/16/2017 3:58:32 PM |

I re-watched Firday the 13th, The FInal Chapter with Corey Feldman last Friday the 13th.
It was horrible.
I also re-watched Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. It was pretty silly, but had some neat parts/scenery/nostalgia. 10/24/2017 1:52:35 PM |

Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^^Agreed, it was horrible. That was at the time when it was still trying to be serious. The Friday 13th movies don't really get good until you start rooting for Jason and seeing how he is gonna fuck up the counselors. The ending of Part IV (the Final Chapter) when Corey Feldman shaves his head is so weird. This unstoppable killing machine who has been murdering people for years has been killed by a kid.
If you are going for a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, Part 3 is the def the best one.
^Would You Rather seemed more like torture porn to me then an actual horror movie. Seemed like it was just going for the shock factor more than anything. 10/24/2017 3:10:22 PM |

I watched Mandy, its definitely style over substance. Watch the trailer and if you like the look of it, just know the actual movie is much less plot driven than the trailer makes it out to be. But if you like the weird mood, tone, and visuals it’s pretty cool, with a handful of really great scenes. Also if you like Mandy, you’d probably also like the director’s first movie, Beyond the Black Rainbow, which is more of the same, but just an ode to a slightly different genre, and even less plot.

I tried to watch The Mist. Since it's Stephen King, and Directed by the guy who did Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, I was hoping it would be decent. It was not, and I stopped about 30 minutes in.

lol I couldn't disagree more, although I am a horror snob and a werewolf snob on top of that. My fav part of the Howling is when the woman is looking through the filing cabinet and suddenly realizes there is a werewolf standing in the corner of the room (of screen).
You guys want a real "so bad it's good" horror movie, check out the Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf. It is the best worst horror movie ever made.10/10/2018 1:41:10 PM |
