That's the bottom line. Westbrook leaves with lead...Westbrook comes back in deficit. Westbrook builds lead back up...comes back with deficit in 4th quarter. He's gassed and shoots them out of the game.
The only thing I won't argue is that he sucked in the 4th. I attribute it to fatigue (to go along with not trusting his teammates).
I don't see how you can argue that Westbrook has a better supporting cast when Houston's 2nd unit thoroughly outplayed OKC's for the entire series.4/27/2017 7:26:41 AM |

If he's gassed he should maybe, I don't know, shoot fewer 3s that need non-gassed legs? Drive and kick for open dunks? Try anything other than jacking up bad shot after bad shot?
It's weird to agree that someone is bad for 1/4th of a game and argue that is actually MORE proof that he is actually good.
I'll out myself as a Rockets fan. Tuesday night as Rockets were clinging to lead, I was scared when Westbrook was getting in the lane and dumping to Grant or Gibson for easy layups and dunks, I was NOT scared when he started jacking up more 3s and long 2s
I've been comparing DSJ to Westbrook now only bc they have a similar skillset, but they also have a similar mindset. They are both really good players who are somehow still overconfident. They both excel when going to the basket but still get into phases where they jack up long shots, the weakest part of their games.

Me being a Warriors fan has very little to do with the reality that RW is just a stat stuffer and doesn't care about winning. I'm truly very sorry that your favorite player is out of the playoffs, but since you don't have a team to root for, maybe you can find someone else to obsess over and defend. You could jump on the Harden bandwagon since they have very similar stats. Sure, it's annoying watching him jerk his head back and flail about like a Duke player so he can get to the line 15+ times a game, but no more annoying than watching Russ jack up bricks left and right in the 4th quarter.4/27/2017 1:09:21 PM |

I agree...but being tired also effects your driving...and just your mindset in general. The Rockets also sag off of him more in the 4th...daring him to shoot. They know what's up. If you look in the first three quarters and the beginning of the game, they defend him tight off the PNRs. In the fourth, his defender and the screeners defender back off and cut off the drive and give him the three.
There's no defending him taking shitty threes. But there are also reasons as to why it happens more in the 4th.

Maybe if a team can sag off of you, you're not MVP?
Also I don't think Pat Beverly has "sagged off" of anyone is his life as a defender 4/27/2017 3:22:43 PM |

Beverly was on the bench most of the 4th in Game 5. And if you go back and watch previous games when Westbrook was jacking threes, Beverly and company were going under screens instead of fighting through them like they did in the first three quarters. Harden said it after Game 2...they knew Westbrook was going to shoot, so they let him. 4/27/2017 3:46:42 PM |

As much as I loathe the Clippers and want to see everything blown up during the off-season, I'm kinda rooting for them against the Jazz to pull it out. Not because I actually want them to win a playoff series, but because I'd thoroughly enjoy watching them get hammered by the Warriors as a comeuppance for all the trash they've talked over the years and for knocking us out in 2014. Utah would be an annoying series given their slow tempo and they'd put up more of a fight than a depleted and Griffin-less Clips team. Plus they're at altitude.
That SAS/HOU series is going to be great though. 4/28/2017 1:31:54 PM |

This yr is gonna be boring. All top 4 seeds in each conference are advancing to semi finals. Probably Cavs vs Warriors again for the Finals according to the performance of 1st round playoff. If Washington can beat Cleveland it will be a surprise. But cavs is so good so far. 4/28/2017 3:00:05 PM |

Holy cow what an ass whooping. It was ugly from the get go. The Spurs starting lineup is too slow to guard all the shooters Houston has and they are sniper shooting them to death.
Plus the Rockets actually know what to do for defense, ain't nobody but Kawai the guy in that system. let him score 50 and shut down the rest of the team completely. Pop has some real drastic moves to be made. He has to go small to defend the 3.
Nene shouldnt have gotten that tech, he was keepin them apart 5/2/2017 1:57:30 AM |

That's not good. Don't see anyway that doesn't end with him being done for the playoffs.
Kawhi and Lebron were so good last night. Lebron will be unstoppable if his 3 continues to fall. Night and day the difference in his 3-point shooting from last year to this year. 5/4/2017 7:12:01 AM |

No way. The only way to beat the Warriors is to out-warrior them. Spread the court with long athletic wing guys who can defend and shoot the three (Cleveland). If the Rockets played the Warriors, a healthy Nene would only get about 8 mins per game. Just the nature of those matchups. 5/8/2017 5:49:14 PM |

I interpreted that comment as losing him would mean they won't be able to get passed the Spurs in the first place, but maybe not. Given that he's out now, I'll guess we'll just to see how much his presence mattered, but I think losing any of Beverly/Gordon or Anderson/Ariza would be a much, much bigger deal. Nene only played like 4 mins last game. 5/8/2017 6:17:44 PM |

I think it helps in a sense. It forces the Rockets to go small. Aldridge, Gasol, and Lee can't guard Ryan Anderson on the perimeter. They pulled away when he was in there hitting threes. They'll get owned on the boards...but I think they'll trade that for open threes. 5/9/2017 8:01:00 AM |

If the Rockets get past the Spurs, I think they could win a game or two and make it an interesting series with the Warriors. They have plenty of three point shooting options and they play at a pace that would make it a much more entertaining series than Ws/Spurs. The Spurs have a great coach and Kawhi, but now that Parker is done, I don't see another reliable scoring threat for them. Aldridge can put up 15-20 pretty easily, but who else can step up with Kawhi to keep pace with the Warriors and score 100+? Even if he scores 35-40 every game, I just don't see it being enough. People have been knocking the Warriors D all season long, but if you've been watching closely, it's been pretty solid throughout the playoffs, even against players who can score a lot (Lillard, McCollum, Hayward, etc).
On one hand, I'd like to see the Warriors finally defeat the Spurs in the WCF since they're a legendary franchise, but on the other, I think it would probably be a boring series like the one we just saw with GS and Utah. The Rockets would also be more similar to the Cavs in terms of pacing, shooting, and energy, so I think I'd rather the Ws play them in the end.
With that said, Cleveland could probably sweep Boston at this point, while the Wizards might be able steal a game or two if Beale and Wall can go off.
I can see why people are bored and pissed, but it shouldn't be that big of a surprise that the Warriors and Cavs are headed for a finals trilogy.
