I don't know what it is about this man's writing, but it captivates me like little else I've read recently. I read a few sentences and then I'm dead to the world.



I liked Lucifer and the Constantine comics that I've read, and this has that same feel of real-world fantasy. Plus, there's the mild detective bits.



I heard good things about this from several of my students, so I figure I'll read it as my next YA book.

The Rothfuss books are amazing. I only wish I'd waited til the 3rd one was out before reading them.

Shit and how did I forget a Dance w/ Dragons is out?!? Now, should I read it or try to wait the 10+ years it will be before he finishes the series...

On the second book of the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. Like it so far.

Robin Hobb's books are all pretty good. It was really hard for me to tell through reading them whether it was a female or male author. I was actually surprised that Robin is a woman. Good stories but a bit frustrating when it comes to relationships, which was why I thought she was male for a long time. I really like that she walks that line though. I think it makes her books more accessible to male readers.

This is the 3rd book in the Lucas Davenport series. There are ~23 of them, all with "prey" in the title...
I plan on reading them all.

I read that one. Pretty good. Maybe not quite up to par with the Weaver books, but solid book nonetheless.

I can't remember the last book I posted in here, but I've read several over the summer.

This one was "meh." Interesting subject about the Mafia in Boston (mainly Whitey Bulger and his crew) and how they were informants for the FBI and because of that certain FBI agents let them get away with a lot, tipped them off to other agencies that were investigating them, and ratted on other rival organized crime families so that they could have the streets of Boston to themselves. But it was written by a couple newspaper guys who over dramatized stuff, often using comic book language and puffed themselves up a little. But a decent read if you're into that type of stuff:




The following book goes in my top 5 of all time. Mainly because I grew up on ESPN...watching religiously since I was about 7 years old. This 740+ pg book is about 95% quotes from the people who started and worked for ESPN over the past 30 years. The authors just fill in and add to the stories and quotes that are given. I thought the best parts would be the numerous scandals over the years...but those were just icing on the cake. All the details about how this network came to be the behemoth that is is today is what made this book great (and open to people who aren't ESPN fanatics). Highly recommended:

just finished The Coffee Trader (Liss) and enjoyed it quite a bit (especially the historical aspect). It was a little slow in places, but a good read overall - Liss seems to get more praise for the Weaver books, so I'll definitely be reading those

Just finished up Ken Follet's Fall of Giants. Another really good book from him...falling in line with the "Pillars of the Earth" type book. Looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.

Pretty good. Having worked in the service industry for a long time, I could relate to pretty much everything that was written. The author was a good writer, but there was definitely a lot of "me, me, me." I'd recommend it though. Makes me want to write my own book about bartending. I have as many stories as this guy.

I've got three books to choose from next.

I've worked in restaurants for a good part of my life...I have absolutely no desire to ever work in a kitchen.

I just love food and am slightly obsessed with the complexity of simple ingredients and how they are transformed into amazing thing. I also yearn to travel more. I would like to combine these two one day.
