thought I had it figured out until I drove the r8 V10 RWS. I can't get it out of my head now. I think I'm getting an r8 v10 plus now. 3/9/2020 7:43:48 AM |

price, lower profile, better steering, way better interior, parts availability

Interesting, thanks for the insight.
Personally if I were buying a car of that caliber, I would prefer it to be higher profile. But it does depend on usage and a few other things. I think the Audi is way too low key. 3/10/2020 9:52:20 AM |

to each their own. I don't even wash my cars and I don't wear clothes nicer than old navy, so its obvious outward appearance doesn't factor much into my day to day. 3/10/2020 10:09:49 AM |

I’ve been looking for a S2000 CR for mostly collector’s purpose. What’s your opinion on it? 3/14/2020 10:55:55 PM |

My opinion is goddamn, I can’t imagine how much you’d spend on a nice one and how much more car you could get elsewhere for the same amount of money...
But as a collector piece, it may still be worth it? 3/15/2020 12:17:19 AM |

The ones I’ve been looking at are in the 35-45$k range in mint condition with 20-50k miles. There’s only 699 made and I think the value will go up. 3/15/2020 1:47:38 AM |

are you planning on driving it too or just going to shows and stuff? these "concourse" examples I keep seeing draw big money have ~<1000 miles. no way I could spend that much on something and not use it 3/15/2020 8:21:09 AM |

To be fair, S2000's provide appliance car performance, so not sure what you'd "use" it for. I guess getting groceries?3/15/2020 10:23:01 AM |

Whatever...an S2000 is an absolutely first-rate sports car, even if it doesn't smash your eyeballs back into your skull when you lay into the throttle. I would have bought a 3rd one last year, except that the values have gotten crazy. 3/15/2020 1:26:01 PM |

6 wheels AND flames?! SOLD.
and while an s2000 has incredibly low power numbers, it makes up for it in weight savings and driver dynamics. both of those features are missing from the z4/supra, making for an especially underwhelming package for 55k+ 3/17/2020 10:06:07 AM |

I want a loud angry American V8 for <$30k. Don't care who makes it. Sedan wouldn't hurt but not a deal breaker. And ofc I have to not get something that smoothcrim deems as "appliance car performance" which is a snarky of saying I want gobs of HP.

Wondering if the move to a 500hp+ American monster is an over correction to my flaccid 4cyl BMW or if I should just throw caution to the wind...
Definitely entering pay to play land, but which of the cars being discussed would be predicted to be the most reliable/not too expensive to fix?] 4/14/2020 11:40:50 PM |
Dr Pepper All American 3583 Posts user info edit post |
...one that has 500hp in oem form.
if it's modified you're going to have to be aware of the following:
- how is it tuned, what is the quality of the tune, do you know a tuner or can you tune yourself - what supporting modifications are there - transmission, cooling, driveshaft, rear end. No supporting mods = quicker time to part failure - what fuel required - 93, E85, methanol injection, which will determine your driving habits and fuel-up stops
Bascially if you can't be a jack of all trades for the car, you better be friends with a mechanic and a tuner.
For example, my boss's wife has a 95 T/A that makes over 1000 to the wheels, lots of fun. She drives it around town for 30-40mins at a time when she wants to cruise.... but it's got a powerglide transmission, slicks, and runs on C16 race fuel. It can get hot quick and eventually she'll have to get to back to the shop or house where there's a can of fuel.
