Yeah, well these people are garbage.

You're probably right, but where has coddling these people gotten us? They should know that their delusions of grandeur are dumb and that their views are not societally acceptable.

Provoke them for a reason -- to let them know they are shit and that people don't agree with them. Note, I don't think this is effective, but fuck these people anyway.

yes, fuck these people and definitely make political hay from them.

...but thats not what this is. Making fun of them coupled with the current FBI/ATF is setting up a 1990s atmosphere thats going to lead to another oklahoma city.

I dont think conservative tears are worth it, personally. They are easily marginalized without being like "neener the govt has fighter jets lolz." By all means make the comment if youre actually going to F15 them, though.

For those discussing student loan debt forgiveness ITT, I heard yesterday on local news that the forgiven amount would be considered taxable at the state level in NC (but not the federal level) unless changes were implemented by the General Assembly. So just be aware and follow with interest to potentially avoid a surprise $500+ additional state tax bill you haven't planned for. Still would be a good deal, but plan accordingly. I can see Republican-run state houses being in favor of the taxation because they know that many if not most affected will be surprised by it and will probably blame Democrats for a bait-and-switch or some such.

Does something posted today deserve an 'engage critically' response? I see a post from what I like to call an accidental troll then a series of one line responses that almost all had an implied /s

i would suggest any discussion about the economy is largely ignored in favor of social issues. democrats win on social issues of course but is it enough in november?

nobody at the grocery store picks up their 7 dollar bread and thinks to themselves "hmm, well bread is 9 dollars in europe."

presidents always take credit for good economies and get blamed for bad ones. regardless of responsibility this is simply a reality they have to address. it would be nice if we could have a good discussion... but thats tough when some simply want to troll him and others just defend everything.

That's a post that could be engaged with critically. Im personally not just bc im not smart enough on economics to have real suggestions of what Biden or congress should do.

Sorry for any confusion my comment has caused.

The point I'm trying to make is that it shouldn't be excusable to distill complex global issues into little sound bites and uninformed hot takes. That shouldn't be an acceptable level of analysis for any voter, even though it happens all the time. The ideas that the President sets gas prices and controls inflation are just so stupid that it's infuriating. I can't always tell who's being sarcastic, who's trolling, and who's just parroting ignorant talking points from Facebook and conservative media. Mainly the infrequent Soap Box posters who drop by occasionally to distill their unique wisdom.

So Biden just made a change to his student loan forgiveness program that is actually going to screw any us folks that got loans long ago, before the government gave out loans directly:

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/29/politics/biden-student-loan-forgiveness-plan-lawsuit/index.html

So anyone who has their loans from CFNC are not going to benefit.

Sure. He needs to do whatever to make it work I guess. I just find it funny that someone who hasn't missed a payment in almost 20 years, staring down the barrel of forgiveness, gets screwed. And it's not like I've done anything wrong here - back then you were required to go through a servicer - some people got assigned to commercial servicers, some people didn't. Guess it was just luck of the draw.

But hey I didn't ask for forgiveness so I guess I'm getting what I want.

^^^^thats not entirely true. He stopped allowing loans to be consolidated into loans backed by dept of ed, but those that consolidated before like 2 days ago are able to get it. I just got in. I called cfnc, they told me to consolidate. Glad I didn't wait!

Well, I've been chatting with folks from the Dep. of Ed about the last hour, and from what I can gather, the consolidation into direct loans is for those seeking forgiveness via the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, not the Biden forgiveness.

They are still saying my FFELP loans are still applicable. So I don't know. I've also gotten several different stories, depending on who I talk to.

It's gonna be some BS if technicalities keep me from getting the same forgiveness that all these other folks are getting.

Biden admin is cracking down hard on trading microchips with China Especially as it relates to ai technologies. Biden so far has been far more protectionist and aggressive on China than trump and I think it’s going to end up hurting a lot of tech growth.

I’m starting to regret that free trade isn’t our guiding principle. Trans pacific partnership was good actually…
