Quote : | "Is the sleeping giant in Raleigh ready to wake up?
If North Carolina State athletic director Deborah Yow and Chancellor Randy Woodson have anything to do with it, the answer is a resounding “yes!”
“Wolfpack Unlimited” will be the new theme of North Carolina State athletics. And there’s no reason the University can’t reach all of its potential in establishing a first-class, Division I program.
Twenty years of mediocrity in collegiate athletics will finally come to an end with Woodson and Yow steering the Pack ship.
In other words, the buck will stop on their desks as they make decisions to move North Carolina State University ahead and in competition with their collegiate counterparts. Of course, there will be growing pains, but that’s always going to be the case when positive moves are made to improve programs." |
Quote : | "There was a come-to-Jesus meeting last week when Deborah Yow started her tenure as North Carolina State’s athletic director.
Reliable inside sources say the meeting was short and to the point. It commenced, Yow was formally introduced and then sat down and gave way to NCSU Chancellor Randy Woodson, who gave the marching orders.
The new Chancellor put every coach on the spot and pointed out they were all under employment to take their programs to the elite level. In other words, they were hired to “win” — not at all cost, but under the NCAA rules and regulations and in the spirit of sportsmanship and quality competition." |

Quote : | "RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State athletics department has signed a four-year agreement with CBSSports.com College Network to provide webhosting services for GoPack.com, the official website of Wolfpack athletics, new NC State athletics director Deborah A. Yow has announced.
As part of the move, a newly designed and enhanced site will be launched Thursday afternoon.
"We want GoPack.com to be the premier site that Wolfpack fans go to for information," Yow said. "That means access to the information has to be streamlined. We will have better video content, more timely information and an easier to use layout."
A committee led by NC State assistant athletics director for marketing and web operations Chris Alston has spent more than a year studying and reviewing the current site, considering bids for a new host company and looking for ways to improve GoPack.com.
One of the many enhancements is the "Wolfpack Unlimited" feedback tool Yow promised on the day she was hired, giving fans a means to communicate with her office. An athletics department employee will be responsible for answering all questions, comments and suggestions sent through the feedback tool.
"There will be a person assigned in athletics who will be responsible in providing assistance," Yow said. "We look forward to providing the service to people who have been very loyal to us for a very long time and deserve this level of attention and respect."
Among the changes are these site enhancements:
* A focus on additional flash video content; * Utilization of industry-leading "GameTracker" live statistics service; * More written content, provided by the athletics media relations department and three veteran columnists. * Virtual media guides for all sports. The 2010 NC State football guide will debut when the new site is launched; * Continuous updates for all sports via popular social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
Wolfpack supporters can boost those pages by becoming fans of the NC State Athletics Facebook page. Between now and the Sept. 4 football season opener against Western Carolina, fans who help boost the Facebook fan total to more than 15,000 can receive a coupon for $10 off a ticket to the Western Carolina game.
And every new fan who follows the page between now and Sept. 1 will be entered in a drawing to receive two 2010 football season tickets.
CBSSports.com College Network is a division of CBS Interactive. It hosts 175 college athletic websites, including 70 percent of all NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision schools." |

I used to sit in the seats up in 9/10 with seat backs. It was not as desirable as the bleacher seats that I now sit in.
You can't move your legs, there's like one position they'll fit in and that's it. It really sucks when someone walks down the aisle. the seats keep your from being able to put stuff like drinks or food down by your feet, cause you can't get to it. 7/27/2010 9:25:37 PM |

He said the only thing N.C. State needs from the administration is an indoor facility where the team can practice in inclement weather.

Yow was really involved with getting nicer and updated facilities at MD, the difference is that her programs did far more on the field/court than Fowler's did during that time. If she can build facilities and have the coaches working for her succeed then she'll already be the best AD we've had in 20 years. 7/27/2010 10:28:04 PM |

Its time for the university as a whole to build facilities as well. Don't underestimate what a major update to Charmichael, the bookstore, freshman dorms, and the student center could do for the university. 7/28/2010 7:45:29 AM |

^ True. I've never understood why Carmichael was not one of the highest priorities for improvements when they did the bond referendum back in that day. Compared to many other colleges and universities, Carmichael is joke and is way undersized for a school like State.
I've always felt that they should build a new massive gym on Centennial with plenty of parking. Carmichael could still be used for some classes and could still have a convenience factor for on campus people, but having an accessible place WITH PARKING on Centennial would have made things much better for off campus students. 7/28/2010 7:59:17 AM |

^^ Hasn't Carmichael been improved quite a bit? I graduated more than 5 years ago and yeah, it seemed a bit dated then, but it was plenty big enough, except for those periods of time right after New Year's and right before the weather is nice enough to hit the beach. But that's the way it is with all gyms...
Now I haven't been in there in years but the last time I went by it they had done some insane top floor area with TVs and stuff. What else does that gym need? 7/28/2010 9:08:51 AM |

The Atrium is being redone now and will be finished sometime by Fall 2011, Talley and the bookstore will pretty much completely redone sometime in the next few years (not sure when that is supposed to get underway), there is a slated construction/renovation project for North Hall (one on Hillsborough) in the next few years and the Lee/Sullivan demolition and reconstruction will happen, but has been put off until they build some engineering dorms on Centennial to offset the loss of housing demolishing Lee and Sullivan would create. I do think Carmichael should be the next building that they focus on though, the basketball courts are the nicest part of the gym (Rec Center excluded) and even those are dated compared to what other colleges have.

N.C. State's Yow to reorganize department
Quote : | "Athletic director Debbie Yow, who was hired in June to replace Lee Fowler, is planning to reorganize N.C. State's athletic department.
"We think we've got the right people on the bus," Yow said. "We want to make sure they're in the right seats."
Yow plans to add one or two senior associate athletic directors as part of the reorganization, but said she'll do it while keeping in mind that the department's budget also needs to be balanced in challenging economic times.
The reorganization should be completed by late next week, Yow said." |
