the directors cut of alien was on hbo saturday night. with an interview with scott afterwards.
i hadn't watched the first one in ages, so i gave it a go... and yes ^ is pretty spot on... the 2nd hour smokes the first.
i did notice a couple of pretty obvious continuity issues in the directors cut i hadn't picked up on though. 4/16/2012 10:46:33 AM |

I watched it too on Saturday night, which is why it was so fresh in my mind. My wife was complaining about why they kept going back to the two guys bitching about their bonuses. 4/16/2012 11:00:03 AM |

Also, because space travel was kind of a big deal during that time, they spent forever on landing the spacecraft with all the radio chatter of the different systems and checks. It took 10 damned minutes to land the ship." |
I agree kind of. I think one of the great things about the movie isn't just the action but the atmosphere. When there are too few details it's much more difficult to suspend your disbelief. Too many are needed not only to help with that suspension but also so when the action kicks in it makes that much better.4/16/2012 12:52:23 PM |

Did anyone catch the creature (that resembles a tentacle) going into someone's suit through the arm? It was real quick. If you go frame by frame from 1:18-1:24, an image of someone's face with what appears to be a creature UNDER the skin, then some kind of tentacle like thing entering the arm of someone's suit and then an image of someone's face melting as if acid had been thrown on it.

the creature's bone structure in the top part of it's body vaguely resembles the facehugger hand-like body

Wicked! On a side note I haven't seen the actor that played Stringer Bell in The Wire in anything since the show ended, kind of an odd casting imo.

If any of you have ever melted plastic, then you know that if it touched skin, its going to decimate whatever it touches so I am really not sure what melted fiberglass (or whatever the material is that makes up the helmet) would do to a person but I'm pretty sure whatever is left is not going to be alive.
If the movie does not follow logic in this scene, I'm going to be very frustrated. 5/1/2012 11:33:48 AM |

How can you not see overlaps between the structure of the two movies?
-The crew in prometheus and in Alien seem to be exactly the same, person to person, even down to the token black dude.
-Both movies feature two strong female characters and an android.
- The plot seems based upon one flawed decision by a crew member to open up Pandora's box.5/1/2012 5:21:19 PM |

There was an android in the crew of the first two films (maybe the 3rd and 4th too, I can't remember), and it was explained that an android always accompanies the crew

This is what I hear
Quote : | "Every movie from this universe must contain only things that I recognize from previous movies from this universe. Anything new or different is crap and is some hack directors attempt at putting his stamp on the series." |
What I would like to hear is
Quote : | "These things are completely new and are probably close to the original variant of the face hugger that has since evolved(away from this ship) over thousands of years, or its just a different weapon in the same mold as a face hugger. I also recognize that this thing could be face a hugger. Its just that the face hugger we see in Alien took traits from these humans (aka the finger legs), evolved a bit, and thats what you see in Alien.
I am sure that whatever the Director chose to do will be fine and I will go into this movie with an open mind. Especially now that the trailers have basically shown the entire movie." |

Forget all that arguing...opinions, everyone's got one and something about assholes but whatever. Anyway, sorry if this has already been posted but I read a thing on EW.com
Quote : | "Director Ridley Scott & Co. have been tight-lipped about Prometheus' plot — especially its ties to the director's visionary 1979 chest-exploding classic Alien — other than to say that the new film has strands of ''Alien DNA'' and that fans of the original will be rewarded in ''the final 12 minutes.''
Here's what we do know: The film, written by newcomer Jon Spaihts and Lost's Damon Lindelof, revolves around the crew of a spaceship that heads off to a distant planet, which is home to a civilization that visited Earth long ago and left evidence of its existence. Needless to say, the mission doesn't go according to plan. Donning the film's snug and sexy space suits are Charlize Theron as a corporate heavy, Michael Fassbender as the crew's mysterious synthetic life-form, and the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, as the film's top-billed star, an archaeologist who leads the gung ho voyage. Whether she'll be as badass as Sigourney Weaver's Ripley is anyone's guess. Scott certainly isn't saying. In fact, the only thing the 74-year-old director seems willing to spill is how young he feels returning to his genre roots. ''I really forgot how fun the world of science fiction is,'' he says. ''It's where anything goes. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do for Prometheus 2.'' Just don't expect him to share what that is. —Chris Nashawaty " |

^ The Alien...durr.
but srsly...I think he's thinking of Lambert:
I wouldn't say she was a "lead"...but she was important. The two actresses in Prometheus look to have much bigger roles than Lambert.

That screencap alone is why I balk at the idea that lambert was a "strong lead" in that movie. She was an ancillary body count that cried a lot. Now don't get me wrong, it was a great performance for the role.
If "has more than one actress in it" is the criteria for movies being too similar then I guess they are.
