Unfortunately not much out there in terms of good horror for werewolf stuff. Obviously recommend An American Werewolf in London as the gold standard for werewolf movies. A recent movie I really enjoyed with an interesting take on werewolf lore was Wer (2013). I will post more suggestions in general horror stuff when I get the chance later. 10/11/2018 5:49:34 PM |

^^^I'm on the second episode. Definitely creepy.
I read the book in the 6th grade. Definitely one of the scarier books I've read. I should re-read it to see if it is still spooky. 10/15/2018 8:54:54 PM |

I'm five episodes into the Haunting of Hill House and think it's fantastic so far. I saw a critic call it "This Is Us" with ghosts. I can kinda see that.
On a personal note -- the sleep paralysis episodes that Nell deals with happens to me at least a few times a year. And it's terrifying as hell, even when you know what's happening. There's this dark, sinister feeling that accompanies the paralysis that feels very, very real in the moment. Like something very bad is about to happen.

Damn you TWW. I listened to you and paid $5.99 to watch Hereditary and you didn't even bother to tell me it was just a stupid setup for a prequel/sequel series. No real scares, tons of unanswered questions, and tiny ass scribbles on bedroom walls that I couldn't even read without a magnifying glass! Even stole the dang creepy ceiling thing from Mama. Why do I keep falling for horror movie hype when there hasn't been a great horror film since The Exorcist?
Don't waste your time on Hereditary and always listen to skywalkr about all horror movies.

An American Werewolf in London is good for a "classic" horror movie, but I didn't find it that much better than The Howling. And the ending certainly left something to be desired.
I started Hellraiser 3, hadn't seen it before. About half-way in, it's kinda silly, as expected, but okay. I watched the Changeling again with George C. Scott from 1980. It's pretty good. It's done really well. 10/22/2018 4:51:23 PM |

Not trolling. Disappointed that I watched an obvious setup for a sequel or prequel, nothing about the movie makes sense otherwise.
And fine, I'll add Blair Witch Project to the list of two good horror movies since 1973. 10/22/2018 9:30:50 PM |

^ You're even more stupider than a moron. I thought it was ok to share an opinion here, but I guess not. And I still think Hereditary was an overhyped sequel ploy that brought nothing original to the genre. 10/23/2018 8:31:11 AM |

That's because you have six inches of bone compressing your brain to a little knot the size of a Corgi's nutsack. It's not okay to share an opinion when you're a drooling shitbird idiot.
And you are. You're a fucking idiot. Not just about this, but about this especially. It is the way of the fucking idiot to cite "unanswered questions" as a problem with a movie. 10/23/2018 9:15:12 AM |

I tried to watch the second half of Hellraiser 3. It was awful. We ended up fast-forwarding through most of it. 10/23/2018 9:42:04 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
What questions about Hereditary did you find were unanswered? I watched it like a month ago so the details aren't super fresh in my mind, but I didn't find myself wondering about anything at the end. Admittedly, it did not spoon feed you a lot of the answers but I figured things out after thinking about it for a while.
^Hellraiser and Hellraiser 2 are the only movies in that franchise that are any good. The only good part about Hellraiser 3 is when Pinhead goes nuts at that club. Unfortunately the Hellraiser sequels just started getting boring in a bad way while the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies got cheesy to the point of being funny and people started cheering for Jason/Freddy instead of being scared.
I'll give you that the werewolf look in The Howling was decent (any modern day stuff relies too heavily in CGI) but two things that really stand out in An American Werewolf in London are A) The transformation scene/makeup (It actually won an Oscar for best makeup) and B) It actually touches on the psychological aspect of the main character turning into a werewolf over the course of the month. Those crazy dreams he had and visits from his dead friend were great. 10/23/2018 10:16:30 AM |

The lady explains the entire thing at the end of Hereditary.
I love Hellraiser 1 & 2, I don’t really care for the rest of the series except for Bloodline, for some reason I really enjoy watching that one too (although I would not say that it is a good movie) 10/23/2018 11:14:35 AM |
GoldieO All American 1801 Posts user info edit post |
^^^ Seriously, I'm never posting again after this post. But maybe I shouldn't have said unanswered questions, more just the amount of things that weren't discussed in the movie but seemed relevant - e.g., the Paimon mythology, the tiny scribbles, was the mother's brother's death related to the cult, why was the daughter so weird if she wasn't possessed since birth, etc.
I just didn't think it was that great, but then again I'm also a moron so what do I know. 10/23/2018 11:50:44 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
Mythology behind Paimon wasn't relevant. All you need to know is that he was a demon that had a cult trying to bring him into our plane of existence. The grandmother was a prominent leader in the cult. The daughter was possessed, but Paimon needed a male host body to actually be fully powerful. The mother removed the grandmother from their lives when she was pregnant with the older brother so she had know way of channeling Paimon into him. The scribbles weren't overtly explained, but could be the little girl doing it in a possessed state. The brother had to be "distressed" to accept Paimon into his body, so that could have been a slow way of introducing paranoia to him. 10/23/2018 12:00:08 PM |
