Sturgill Simpsons wasn't even the official guest, it was Chris Stapleton. But I thought there sets were very good, easily my favorite in a while. (i haven't seen Migos yet... and I don't know who they are)

my point wasnt that they werent good enough but that the 2 songs they did make snl look hypocrtical

stir fry is appropriation and the music video has oriental vives. migos has said the c word in their songs in the past.

narcos involves a latin influenced beat, spanish adlib and is one big drug dealing stereotype.

Quote :
"Trapping like the narco (narco)
Got dope like Pablo (Pablo)
Cut your throat like Pablo (cut throat)
Chop trees with the Draco (Draco)
On the North, got the Ye, go (Ye, go)
Saying Hasta luego (luego)
We'll be in wrapping kilos (ye)
Snub nose with potatoes
Straight out the jungle (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
This real rap, no mumble (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
My skin black like mamba (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Got stash boxes in Hondas (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Straight out the jungle (oh yeah)
(Magnifico)
Take-Takeoff
No monkey in the jungle, block hot like a sauna
Bustin' knockin' on me, tryna weave with anacondas
Jumpin' in the water, trying to sneak across the waterglass
See guards out, got me beat by a piranha (ouch)
I'll bag it, bag a money, know I gotta have it
Savage, but I'm still a gentleman in Cali (Cali)
Static, nigga turn to mean 'bout the cabbage (uh)
Kill his whole family if he run off with your package (brr)
I just put a pack on the way to Bogota (pack)
Poke his eyes out, ain't no telling what he saw (poke 'em out)
I'ma wire his jaw, I don't know if he will talk (wire jaw)
Get the chainsaw and I'ma saw his legs off (saw)
They knew that we was gang but they saying that we a ring
Investigating, taking pictures of the whole team (DEA)
Undercover, tryna do a sting
10 mil on a plane, going straight to Medellin"

I watched Migos last night, and I agree, get off my lawn, I really didn't see any talent or skill. I really haven't heard any trap rap that I like though. Lyrics aren't good. Terrible autotuned voices. Clothes are silly.... just my opinion of course.

It was mostly due to:

it made sense for anyone familiar with a guy talking his way out of a commitment that also understands the uncertainty around the investigation. you had to understand both to get it but it was genius. I thought it was one of the most sophisticated they've ever done.

I've never watched "This is Us", but I thought the host was very good.

I'd also never heard of James Bay, and I was not into it... although I went back and watched him on Austin City Limits from a few years ago, and that was much better.

Can someone explain Cardi B to me?

Like when I heard she was incredibly popular, I assumed she made good music, or was hot, or could speak English.

she's a former reality tv hoodrat who became popular for being dumb as hell and always ready to speak her mind/start drama. Her rap style is genuine according to her reality tv personality. She's the worst. Theres so many legitatmite female hip hop artists in the bronx but this is who the industry has chosen to "represent". Pretty sad.

^^ah yes someone who leverages a small reality show to massive fame and fortune, the epitome of dumb.

^yea i think her and migos both don't translate well to that type of live setting

I agree, Cardi B and Migos are garbage, at least their performance on SNL was.

But watching the Cardi B's performance encouraged me to go back and watch Lauryn Hill's 2016 performance on Austin City Limits (since Cardi B sampled her)... that performance was incredible.

the Kardashians have excellent business acumen

there’s zero shame in leveraging your fame, no matter how it’s gained, in 2018

Eh lawd, is it OK to say I hate them all and they mean nothing to me and they have no talent or intelligence.

And ... they are nothing compared to SZA. Who shouldn't even be compared but she was on SNL recently and she is actually good. Give me whaaat I waaaaant.

Is that your counter-argument? An Emoji?

It's silly to say there's no shame in capitalizing on fame no matter how it's obtained. Of course it can be shameful. There's tons of examples of non-talented/bad/evil people using their fame for profit, and it's gross.

yes, because that is a horribly lazy (and wrong) argument to attempt to make

you’re scoffing at an artist going on a show other artists go on to become more known and becoming a huge success story

reality tv isn’t why Trump is now president, unless he was on a show called “America’s Top Racist” that I wasn’t aware of

you also regularly come in this thread season after to season to complain about contemporary hip hop musicians, and each time you do it, you get closer to becoming this guy:

It seems like you take offense to nearly any criticism of current pop culture.

But ITT I learned that you think the Kardashians have excellent business acumen. That kinda reduces any impact you have in TSB, IMHO.

i wasn't arguing that.

Is that your counter argument? If so, I don't understand how that addresses what I said.

Quote :

There's plenty of contemporary hip-hop musicians that i think are talented, some i like and some i don't, but i recognize their talent. I just think those like migos and cardi b are really lacking in talent (as least from what I saw on their SNL performance, which I understand isn't a full representation). I just stated my opinion. No need to be a prick.
