my stupid freaking cable box messed up half the show so i missed a ton of dialogue. i knew a lot of what was being said, but then again, they're making so many departures from the books so i could be way off. 4/22/2013 8:43:18 AM |

I can't speak to his motivation, but he gave up some interesting pieces of information interrogators wouldn't have thought to ask, like how he didn't kill Bran or Rickon and that his father doesn't like him.4/22/2013 9:18:29 AM |

This is my favorite of the story lines right now, but it seemed obvious to me that the dragon wouldn't be loyal to someone else and was going to toast the guy and return to her. I figured she would probably turn the army on them too.

It's blindingly obvious. The only unrealistic part was the original master not seeing it coming.

The thing I didn't get with the Theon part was that he was running away from whoever was torturing him's forces, and get unhorsed and then homeboy shows up with a bow and downs the guys that were pursuing him, only to turn him in to the same people?
Why did the guy kill the other pusuers? To get all the glory for capturing him by himself?
I guess he led Theon to a different dungeon, or was it a back tunnel into the original? Seems like he would have known he was headed opposite of the way they told him to go find his sister. 4/22/2013 5:14:15 PM |

that seems like the conclusion to draw if theon is supposed to have any a tiny bit of intelligence, but the writers def seemed to be implying it was the same place. They made the room exactly the same and the guy said "i brought him back." maybe theon was to flustered running away to know where he was. Someone who edited the Game of Thrones wiki agrees w/ me:
Quote : | "The youth lights a torch and much to Theon's horror he's back in the torture chamber. Armed men enter and the boy claims that Theon killed their comrades and escaped but he has brought their captive back. " |
also, i was wondering if that guy was angling for the iron islands throne/title/heirship (word?). "recapturing" theon would be good for his rep and he made a big deal about how theon was greyjoy's last son, so w/ theon out of the way only the sister remains.
Also, could the brotherhood w/out banners be affiliated w/ Stannis at all? May be a reach but the obvious lord of the light connection is there plus that knight was Ned's guy and Ned supported Stannis.
[Edited on April 22, 2013 at 8:23 PM. Reason : also theon's story came to a natural end last season, his story line is the weakest part of the show]4/22/2013 8:20:30 PM |

Just watched it and OH MY GOD! I knew the Khaleesi was going to burn that city but I didn't realize she would do it in such a bad ass way! This show just keeps getting better. I wish they released it all at once like Netflix, then again I don't think I would go to sleep tonight if they did that.

Here's the rule. Regarding the show, the second it has finished airing at it's designated time on HBO on the Eastern Seaboard, talking about that episode is no longer a spoiler. Talking about books that have been out for over a decade, however, is a spoiler.
Also, no talking about the preview scenes shown at the end of the show mentioned above.4/23/2013 4:13:53 PM |

If the show has aired its not a spoiler. If someone hasn't seen an episode that's been aired they shouldn't be reading the thread if they don't want to be "spoiled". I don't know why this is hard for people to understand.
We're not going to sit around not posting in the thread till every single human has watched the show.4/23/2013 4:26:01 PM |

Not Daenerys. No woman has ever sat the Iron Throne, and she can't bear children, so what happens when she dies, should she ever claim it?

I was thinking this last night. By all "rules" Stannis should be king once it's proven that Joffrey is a bastard child of his mom and uncle. Joffrey has the throne and the power to keep it(right now). If Stannis went to the people and made his claim he wouldn't get very far. He has to defeat Joffrey and win the people over. Danny right now is the only one in position to defeat Joffrey AND win the people over but she's a long ways off from doing any damage. Margery right now is in a better position to claim the throne than Danny. She's got the people, she's got the army, resources and she's setting Joffrey up to get killed.4/23/2013 4:37:34 PM |

Hold up...she can't bear children? One stillborn (per the show) does not mean she can't carry a child to full term.
Unless you just spoiled something from the books

Stannis was Robert's older brother, so he has more claim than a bastard, who doesn't even realize he's Robert's son. That was his point when Renly tried to proclaim himself king. 4/24/2013 10:16:23 PM |
dillydaliant All American 1991 Posts user info edit post |
^^Bastards never have a very good claim to the throne. Gendry is one of Robert's many bastard children, most of whom were murdered back in I believe season one (but it might've been season two).
As someone earlier said, the people with the two most legitimate claims to the throne are Dany and Stannis. Stannis, being Robert's last living brother, has the most legitimate claim if you consider Robert's Rebellion to have been legitimate, Dany's is the most legitimate if you don't (being the last known living Targaryen, who controlled the throne before Robert took it). But just as Robert won the throne with a war, the Lannisters and Tyrells have themselves won the throne with the recent war. So the legitimacy of claims sort of goes out the window at that point. 4/24/2013 10:23:28 PM |
AstralEngine All American 3864 Posts user info edit post |
That's not right. Bastards don't have better claims than their legitimate siblings, but kingship passes linearly through sons. Roberts bastard children would have better claims to the throne than his brother would. 4/24/2013 10:58:13 PM |
