he never supported trump, he just had a "let's see what we get, maybe it won't be as bad as we think" approach after the election and before trump started making any of his appointments

Going down a rabbit hole because I respect his (or her?) views so I didn't want to call out but adultswim is one. Perhaps "fall for it" was a bad way to put it but in this very thread he was quoting TheDonald on Reddit.

[Edited on April 17, 2017 at 3:16 PM. Reason : Michael Tracey and that whole wing on twitter to. Again not explicitly SUPPORTING trump]

Michael Tracey is just critical of reactionary reporting, he's not a trump supporter and i'm not sure what trump lies you think he fell for

adultswim has only posted r/the_donald when he has made fun of it imploding and when he was linking to the presidents AMA, he has made it clear many times he doesn't support trump

He's (Tracey) posted multiple times since the debates on how much more of a dove Trump is than Obama and Clinton. Glenn Greenwald has it right when he talks about nuance and how non-interventionist doesn't mean pacifist but from what I've seen Tracey hasn't until very recently when Trump left no choice.

And for the record, I never said they supported Trump. Think I made that pretty clear.

And there is a non-ironic link to TheDonald on page TWO of this very thread if you care.

[Edited on April 17, 2017 at 3:45 PM. Reason : I don't religiously read MT so maybe I missed his nuance]

on November 11th, which was after the election and before Trump did anything yet, on a page where his comments are criticizing trump and saying he hopes the other posters are wrong

that isn't supporting trump or falling for his lies, just hoping its not as bad as expected

anyone who has ever hoped things work out better than expected is a trump supporter who got tricked?

stop this nonsense, stop trying to blame "the left" like it wasn't you moronic corporatist democrats who caused this shit

This is pointless. You're seeing what you want to in my posts even though I've explicitly said the opposite.

(And it doesn't matter but I didn't and have never voted for Clinton in a primary).

if you didn't mean that anyone on the left on this site was a trump supporter who fell for his lies, then what did you mean when you said:
Quote :
"Sadly a lot of those to the left of me also bought into Trump's lies hook, line and sinker"

Quote :
"There was at least a handful of those way to the left of me on here even that were all about Trump's rhetoric on cleaning up Washington. Obviously those people didn't know much about his history and fell for it."

stop talking this nonsense trying to make this the left's fault

Cleaning up D.C. is an admirable goal and one that I think Sanders actually had he intention of trying to do (at the beginning I thought the same about Obama -- didn't work out) so to be clear I'm not attacking the idea. This whole nonsense started with a dumb "Drain the Swamp" post by me.

I'm simply saying whether it was just a "let's see what he can do" or "don't hate him until he does it" it was patently obvious given his history he had no shred of an intention to do it. He's inarguably made it worse and was always going to.

If you take that as an attack on the entirety of the non-corporatist left I don't know what to say. And one more time, I've gone out of my way to say they were not Trump supporters.

Everyone's tax returns should be public record. Liberals will disagree because they are hypocrites who only want to see Trump's returns but don't want everyone to be able to scrutinize theirs in the same way. What do you have to hide? Show us your tax returns.

Because none of the liberal elites support that idea. They want a special "rule" that only applies to DT but spares them.

I not only want to see Trump's tax returns, I want to be able to see everyone's tax returns anytime. None of the liberal elites pushing for this have made their tax returns public. Why don't they step forward as tribute? I would love to know the investment interests of the talking heads telling us the "news". For example, Fareed Zakaria is a huge investor in defense companies. Once you know that, you can see right through the entire message of his show. I want to see my coworkers' taxes, boss' taxes, a neighbor down the street, etc. I want to use it to help inform my dining and shopping choices.

When we talk about equal pay for equal work, tax reform, or anything related to government spending, it becomes a lot more transparent if everyone's taxes are out there. People would consume a lot more responsibly if all tax returns were public.

Duurrrrrr it couldn't possibly be that Trump is no longer a private citizen, but is instead the most important public official in the country Duuuurrrrrrrrrrrr

Who da thunk we might require the people making decisions for our country to be more transparent than private citizens going about their private business. Makes ya think huh?

Not sure what Trump is hiding with tax returns but the financial disclosure forms are public. Here is 104 pages to look through:

If it was actually more illustrative than a tax return and showed all the same information plus more, than he would simply release his return and shut everyone up. End of story

A tax return would show specific numbers, and shoe specific dates, that document is only 1 year and uses huge ranges for value of things.

Neither that doc or tax returns show liabilities for the web of LLC/corporations though, which is the bigger deal. If trump ever released his returns we'd really need the taxes of LLcs/corps for a few years to know how much trump is lying about his wealth.

In the absence of specific dates being generous with the ranges, trump at Best owns less than $2B in real estate and had income less than $50M. He's Richard wealthy but highly doubt it's the 7-12B he likes to claim.

Considering his dads business was worth about 700M when trump took over in the 70s this is very slow growth.

The picture in front of the HRC portrait making the rounds on social media? I think it's pretty funny. They are making fun of a pretty poor candidate and it's just nonsense.

Again, though, if Jay-Z did similar in front of Nancy Reagan could you imagine the heads lost on the right.

Is into normal for a sitting president to all but endorse candidates running for office in other country's?

Trump just did with Le Pen (of course). Maybe it is but I don't remember Obama taking a side even with someone like Merkel, though I could be way off here and just not remember.

Every president has tried to influence elections in other countries. We want leaders in place who are going to be the friendliest to us in trade deals or international matters.

Although not a president, when Boehner invited Netanyahu to address congress just weeks before the last Israeli election, that may have been the day the election was decided.

Fair point. And Trump wasn't overt about it.

As I watch him sign more EOs removing financial regulations and we have a tax reform bill on the horizon is it fair to say he has completely abandoned any semblance of economic populism (while holding on to the bad tenets of nativism)?

Usually not openly. It's bad politics to shit on a candidate, then be forced to try and work with that person if they win. It hurts working relationships, and also lowers your own cache if the person you lobbied for doesn't win.

Let's not forget that Trump is not only dangerous, but also REALLY, REALLY stupid.

I wasn't a fan of Jay-z visiting the WH as much as he did given his music, and I must say that I feel exactly the same way as Kid Rock. I mean, there's a guy standing at the Resolute Desk who's main claim to fame is a song called Ba-wit-da-ba.

Very surreal interview with trump there. The guy is seriously self deluded or he thinks people are complete idiots.

Quote :
"TRUMP: But things change. There has to be flexibility. Let me give you an example. President Xi, we have a, like, a really great relationship. For me to call him a currency manipulator and then say, "By the way, I'd like you to solve the North Korean problem," doesn't work. So you have to have a certain flexibility, Number One. Number Two, from the time I took office till now, you know, it's a very exact thing. It's not like generalities. Do you want a Coke or anything?

AP: I'm OK, thank you. No. ...

TRUMP: But President Xi, from the time I took office, he has not, they have not been currency manipulators. Because there's a certain respect because he knew I would do something or whatever. But more importantly than him not being a currency manipulator the bigger picture, bigger than even currency manipulation, if he's helping us with North Korea, with nuclear and all of the things that go along with it, who would call, what am I going to do, say, "By the way, would you help us with North Korea? And also, you're a currency manipulator." It doesn't work that way."
