Anyone who has ever worked on or around an s2000 top knows how much crap there is to mess up. Honda puts the car together as cheap as possible with 30 breakable and easily dropped clips that will rest on the hard metal in and around the spare tire.
Was the hole epic? " |
Taking my car to the same place my dad had his done wasn't practical, since my parents live in Charlotte. The hole wasn't large, but was getting larger. It was created by rubbing on a support, there is a TSB for it.
Quote : | "Just stay on them until it's 100% right TKE Teg. The next time you take it to them let them know (before they do the work) that anything less than 100% is unacceptable. Don't be afraid to contact Honda Corporate (you can do this through their website) and ask for a customer service rep to be assigned to your case if it isn't fixed 100% on the next trip to the dealer. Also, start documenting every person you deal with regarding the issue." |
Thanks for the advice. That is what I told them. I said I don't care how many days it takes, i want everything the way it was before (minus the hole ). And yes I will be keeping Honda Corporate in mind if it comes to that.

Don't worry, I haven't been mean or angry with them. Just tenacious and persistent. As far as owning another convertible, I probably won't. Future options (few years from now) in my mind are 911, C6, 370Z, Cayman S, or 335i (coupe). All used of course9/29/2009 8:38:21 AM |

A TSB for a a car that was designed 10 years ago?
They send me stuff in the mail wanting me to trade mine in about once ever 6 months. Maybe you should just give them the car back. 9/29/2009 9:19:56 AM |

It's not a TSB for the MY07, and actually I couldn't find a TSB for the convertible top even though a lot of ppl on s2ki.com talk about one. Only TSB for the 07 is a new "reduced maxiumum weight capacity sticker" which I find interesting and annoying b/c I can't find what the reduced weight is anywhere!

It's not a bad idea. Awesome car, though I'm not sure if I'd recommend one unless you plan on taking it to the track to fully enjoy its capabilities.
Just look out for any wear on the top, it should be a concern if the car is out of warranty. Sometimes Honda will replace it free of charge, based on the TSB. However based on people posting on http://www.s2ki.com that isn't always the case. I think a new top installed is around $3500-4000. 10/5/2009 1:04:36 PM |

took a big time windshield chip today. Ford Explorer about 8 car lengths in front of me kicked it up into the air. If he had been able to keep his car in the lane and off the shoulder it probably would not have happened. Oh well . 11/12/2009 8:43:01 PM |

yeah so I had a windshield chip in my Infiniti. I called up Safelite or one of those companies to do the injection treatment thing they do. I specifically called up Progressive and asked them if making this claim would raise my rate. They said no. Next insurance bill, my rate goes up by $30/month
just pay out of pocket, comprehensive claims aren't worth it unless a tree falls on your car 11/12/2009 9:04:21 PM |

^that's not true at all. You just might have shitty coverage.
3 years ago someone smashed the rear glass of my Integra. That piece of glass happened to cost $1100 so you better believe i filed a claim. Did my rates go up?
No they didn't.
I've also had Safelite fix my windshield, as mentioned earlier in this thread. Rates haven't gone up. In fact they should go down next month, the 4 points on my drivers license are disappearing! 11/13/2009 10:04:54 AM |

Damn, what do you fellow AP1 guys run for tires? Seems like none of the tires I want are available in the correct sizes. 16" performance rubber is getting more and more scarce.
I guess I'll just go with Dunlop Star-Specs in the OEM sizes (205/55 front, 225/50 rear...or might go with a 50-profile front. I wanted to go just a little wider and lower in profile, like 225/40 and 245/40 or so, but nobody that I can find makes anything in those sizes for a 16" wheel).

well, it's gotta be a step up from what's on there now, so my frame of reference might not be much value to you...the dude I bought it from put Potenza G009 all-seasons on it.
I mean, I've owned an S2000 before that always wore sticky tires, but it had 18" wheels and MUCH wider rubber (and had about 50% more power), so that isn't really much of a baseline, either.
but yeah, I'll tell you how I like them, for whatever it's worth. 11/13/2009 9:07:00 PM |

What about the OEM tires for the S2000 CR? Are they made in a 16" size? 11/16/2009 11:51:33 PM |
theDuke866 All American 52838 Posts user info edit post |
the problem is the staggered sizes...16" wheels limit your choices to begin with (which blows my mind, but I guess there are very few cars small enough to use 16" wheels these days). Then, you're stuck trying to find a good tire available in 16" that comes in both the front and the rear sizes, or something close enough.
i ended up going with the star-specs. thought about the Kumho XS or Hankook whateveritscalled, or maybe even a set of Azenis, but none of them are available in the right sizes. 11/17/2009 12:10:25 AM |

i need new tires soon. its been maybe 11k miles and im past the wear bars on the rears. since the fronts are good i might suffer through another pair of azenis just to keep the setup front/rear brand consistent. 11/17/2009 12:22:01 AM |

^^^how are you burning through tires so fast? I wonder if it's the type of tire you're using. I've almost got 22,000 miles on the original set of tires (though the first 5,000 miles wasn't me) and I'd say I have at least 5,000 miles before hitting the wear bars on the rear tires. In fact, I'm worried about the inside of my front tires wearing out first. The left front is almost slick on the inside. 11/17/2009 8:50:11 AM |

My RE050A's lasted just as long. I think youre are an exception. Maybe that traction control is doing more then we think. Its an s2000 though....you cant get any wheel spin anyways (140ftlbs?lol). The duke seems to have experienced the same longevity.11/17/2009 12:41:52 PM |

10-12k is about all I get out of any sports car, be it my old supercharged S2000 or Evo (I didn't keep the turbo Miata long enough to go completely through a set of tires that I mounted). I ran BFG KDWs, Advan A046s, and Azenis (multiple sets of everything but the Advans), and always burned them up in about 10-12k.
Quote : | "Though, isn't there an Azeni model that isn't terribly aggressive?" |
I don't know how aggressive the older Azenis model is, but I'd never put a "less aggressive" tire on an S2000 to begin with, so it's pretty much a moot point.11/17/2009 5:51:18 PM |

No track use, but iirc the tread width front and rear is pretty close to the OEM S02s. I'll have to see what happens when I finally take the car to an auto-x event.11/17/2009 7:49:12 PM |

^OEM size is 205 front 225 rear. You swapped out the 225 rears for 245. To even it out you should have increased the front to 225. Then again maybe you think your AP1 is a little twitchy and wanted to stabilize it a bit.
^^Duke, you know me and know that I don't hold back when I drive. Not to mention I was slinging it all over the place on the track and passing faster cars left and right. So don't think for a sec that I'm a sedate driver! 11/17/2009 11:03:54 PM |

actually, the OEM rears (225 section) are about the same tread width as a lot of 245 tires, so a lot of S2000 drivers have gone to running 245 rears (when running other than the OEM tires). 11/17/2009 11:17:11 PM |
