They're failing because these idiots have 1,997+cc (122ci) 4-cylinder engines and the tops simply can't take that kind of power output.

Sounds like he is just looking for excuses to deny your warranty claim. I'd hope for a different service writer when you take it in.

^^you need to watch it, SON. I've got 2.2L of fury under my hood.

^I might have to. This guy has been the person I've dealt with when I had the glovebox replaced under warranty (cracked hinge, which he claimed technically shouldn't be under warranty [even though I didn't do it] but did it b/c the car only had like 6,000 miles on it )and the 7500 mile service.

Both of my AP1s have had the tops tear in pretty much the same places. My first one had a torn top by probably 40-50k miles.

if you use it regularly, i don't know of any soft top on any vehicle that isn't going to wear in a hurry.

random thought, but if any of you guys want some canvas to patch an inconspicuous hole or maybe to put an extra patch in a high wear spot on the inside, the top will be coming off my car as soon as the engine gets back in. faded black in color. i was going to use the good roof section and attempt to cover the targa frame from my c4 to make a cheap cabrella knock off.

Yeah, S2ks are certainly some of the very best "out of the box" track suited cars. I tell everyone I know w/an S2k to take it to the track to appreciate them, and yet most never do. Kudos to you, and glad you had a good time.

What you saw was the Spoon Mooncraft roof, which can either look awesome or like ass depending on the corresponding widebody kit they put on. Some of the Japanese tuners make S2000's look really good with them, but I think sadly most of them look like crap. A decent one is the AJ Racing S2000:

The thing I like about it is the tribute to the old Honda S600 coupe:

Beatiful car, classic 60's coupe shape I sometimes wish Honda had made a factory hardtop/coupe S2000.

I dunno. I think I like the idea of that top more than the execution. I like the coupe look, but hate the fact that the Mooncraft hardtop pretty much requires a widebody kit to look right...and all the widebody kits make the car look like ricer shit

OEM hardtop is well done, I'm hoping to get one before too long.

Have any of you fellow S2000 owners installed an iPod adapter/interface? If so where'd you get it, how much was it, and was it a bitch to install?

install was pretty painless and only took about 30 minutes. there is a how-to video on youtube. (that unit doesn't come with install instructions)

^^ Yeah, but did you lose the ability to adjust volume and change tracks from the little controls by the steering wheel? Reaching for your stereo is so 1999.

dubcaps, I'll check that out.

Quinn, I am not replacing the OEM stereo. I'm fine with it. Only thing I'd want to do is beef up the speakers (if any more powerful speakers can fit in the door panels?).

I see it doesn't work with the iPhone. While I use my iPod Classic all the time, I just got a 16gig iPhone and might want to use it in the car at some point.

I wonder if this would get the job done: http://blitzsafe.com/catalog/honda/hon-/-m-link1-v-2x/prod_192.html

Yeah I like using the buttons on the dashboard. I use my iPod about 90% of the time (on a crappy FM transmitter), with the stereo door flipped up. I'd prefer to do the same with a direct iPod dock.

In other news, the S2000 will be delayed ANOTHER day getting back to me with a new softtop

i have all oem button functionality.

you need to realize that the honda oem stereo will not drive any decent speaker.

they put 1000db/w efficient speakers in there because
A) they half assed it
B) its a roadster , so i guess they didnt care if it sounded poor
C) see A

oh and i bought the headunit, ipod cable, and interface cable (i think modifry(sp)?) used off of s2ki.

even without the interface cable for controlling the OEM buttons I would have changed the entire unit. that stock stereo had no place in a 35k$ car. what does it even offer?

Mine sounded pretty good. Supposedly had the "premium sound", but I don't know if that was an option or what it might mean. It did have a CD Changer in the trunk to accompany the stock head unit though which was pretty nice.

Mine sounds fine. It's an 07 model so it has 8 speakers. However its not powerful enough to overcome wind noise with the top down at highway speeds. I like my shit loud.

A guy did a 5.3 swap into the 944. He said it the motor was just as good as the LS1, just smaller displacement... Isn't it the same block with different heads and a shorter stroke?

Don't know. I stopped following his build. He's doing a turbo setup so there's been a lot of exhaust fabricating that's consuming a lot of time. He was able to flip the stock headers though Should be a solid build, when done. The website/forum went to shit when the owner was more or less forced to sell the domain to a company who threatened him, so a lot of "us" have since left the forum.

Correction: He's using an L33 HO engine...

^I mean, it's a capable track car but to me it seems like Honda really halfassed that "special edition".

Anyway, I got my car back from AutoPark Honda on Wednesday. Thursday after work I noticed scratch marks on the trunklid, i.e. something was placed on the trunk and then dragged off. So today I spent 4 hours sitting at the dealership while they buffed off the scratches and then did a horrible half assed job of washing the car, inside and out.

What do I have now, some loose pieces of metal rolling around inside one of the convertible top metal supports Sweet Jesus motherfucking Christ, how many times will it take for these asshats to get this shit right!

Drove down to Myrtle Beach this past weekend in the pouring rain and discovered, SURPRISE, that my new convertible top leaks, A LOT. Water was flowing quite constantly through a point where the driver's side window meets the top and right onto my shoulder. I also noticed when entering and exiting the car in the rain that this new convertible top doesn't have rain gutters on the edges like the OEM top.

I'm taking the car back in today/tomorrow. I'm at wit's end here, this is ridiculous.

I would have had to seen the "hole" to begin with. You should have, as i said, taken it to the same exact technician that worked on your fathers car. Anyone who has ever worked on or around an s2000 top knows how much crap there is to mess up. Honda puts the car together as cheap as possible with 30 breakable and easily dropped clips that will rest on the hard metal in and around the spare tire.

Was the hole epic?

Ok , I've now told you so.

Nah...If the top has a hole it needs to be replaced. You really can't fault the guy for letting the factory dealer do warranty work.

Just stay on them until it's 100% right TKE Teg. The next time you take it to them let them know (before they do the work) that anything less than 100% is unacceptable. Don't be afraid to contact Honda Corporate (you can do this through their website) and ask for a customer service rep to be assigned to your case if it isn't fixed 100% on the next trip to the dealer. Also, start documenting every person you deal with regarding the issue.
