they used to just finish a race under caution and it wasn't that big of a deal. didn't keep folks from attending or watching.

"^^I don't want to see that happen with any of the non-endurance race circuits, but it is nice. The standard IMSA is race 2 hrs 40 mins. The standard WEC race is 6 hrs. When the clock runs out it is over. NASCAR should have one attempt at a restart and after that it is over."

a lot of the races are endurance length though, 500 or 600 miles is an endurance race

if you want it distance based shorten the races so there is less time for problems (they are already trying to move to BTCC style stages), if you want long races make it based on time

australia supercars are distance based but only have 3 endurance races and 2 of those are shorter than a lot of nascar races

^^Well my point is endurance circuits go by the clock and when the clock runs out it is over even if the ending isn't exciting. NASCAR needs to get away from throwing yellow flags and get the race over ASAP. We play baseball in America instead of cricket because it takes less time. We don't even have a national team that competes in the World Cup, or World T20s. No one wants to watch a sport that takes too long to complete unless you are British.

Well, the stage format at least at Watkins Glen sets it up that way.

To be fair, only cars that were going to win straight up today without shenanigans was going to be either Truex or Busch.

^Yeah it went quick and that is not a bad thing. It ended not much after the IMSA race and that started before the NASCAR race.

Cleaning out my old toys at my parents' house and came across these I forgot I had.

The Mears Indycar is older than the Earnhardt car. That car is from Gay Toys Inc. And the Earnhardt car is from American Plastic Toys, they changed their name in 1986. Earnhardt ran the Wrangler #3 car from 1983 to 1987 looking it up, so it's either fom 1986 or 1987 and is actually in pretty good shape although it'd never be considered a mint collectible. Mears having the #1 is confusing me. Mears was last national champion in 1982 when he would've ran the #1 season-long in 1983. But he won the 1984 Indy 500 which meant he would've ran the #1 in the 1985 Indy 500 due to the Indy 500 then being sanctioned by USAC and not CART. There is Ford on the sticker on the side and Penske ran the Ford-badged Cosworth until the middle of the 1986 season. So I guess the car is likely from '85 but could be '83. Need to get out some super glue for the rear wing.

Yeah, wonder why they did the name change?

Doing my research, American Plastic Toys are actually still around and still in Michigan.

Back to current racing:

-too little, too late, Kahne out of the #5 next year
-Harvick ripped into Junior's performance or lack thereof in his swansong season on his radio show, and wonders why fans don't more embrace the series' most successful driver, Jimmie Johnson (uhhh, Kevin? I could answer that)

Anyone read Junior's comment on silly season and the drivers that will be coming in?

It's not far from the truth. Hendrick's 4-car team next year looks like it'll have Chase Elliott the 2nd-most senior driver next year.

On top of that, read up on Gray Gaulding's situation at Frontstretch.

^harvick using jr's comments as cover for his own shade throwing. monster is paying about half or what sprint was so that's going to have to trickle down to drivers if they dont want their team to lose money and fold

final stage of mich truck race was great yesterday.

^ what else is new?

NASCAR is considering going to air jacks and dumping the jackmen. It's easy for me to get nostalgic on things auto racing, but this is one thing I endorse. The less people that go to the far side of the car the better for safety reasons, and people don't watch racing for the action of the pitstops.

^^ F1 only did that because drivers and teams were actively not trying to pass and were instead timing fuel stops to pass other guys. Still happens now with tires, but it's not near as bad.

Re Trucks, I think NASCAR should only have 2 national touring series. Trucks will stay national probably until they get to the next TV contract I think, then they'll get dropped to maybe a regional deal with some superspeedways but mostly short tracks to keep costs lower (a la ARCA).

Good race last night.

Pocono for Indycar starts on NBC Sports at 2:30.

Will Power wins a solid race to repeat as Pocono 500 winner. Power before his next-to-last pitstop stayed out and was able to get a 5-second lead alone. A train of 3 drivers led by Josef Newgarden were able to catch him with 5 laps to go, but Power was able to stay in front and win.

Right now there are 4 drivers within one race of championship leader Josef Newgarden with 3 races to go at Gateway, Watkins Glen, and Sonoma.

If NASCAR regulations were a finite element analysis, it'd be overconstrained.
