YPA is a meaningless stat without context, other than a measure of your passing game's efficiency as a whole. An incompletion hurts your average way more than a completed deep pass helps it. Cam and Ben have practically the same YPA this year, would you say they are both throwing it deep at the same rate? 12/3/2018 3:32:17 PM |

I still stand by my conclusion that Rivers and Newton are nothing alike as passers. Rivers is extremely accurate throwing downfield, Newton is not.12/4/2018 4:49:18 PM |

That's fine. I didn't say they were the same, I said they had similarities. Also, Cam was one of the best deep passers in the league 2011-2016. 12/4/2018 4:53:38 PM |

Good loss. Omar Khan and whoever HC he hires will be able to add a top 5 pick and have a very talented roster to work with next year. 12/9/2018 4:32:08 PM |

dude this defense is being kept together by kuechly and his giant balls
our offensive line is trash outside of turner and williams, and we will need to replace kalil
we have no pass rush if we aren't blitzing, and we will also have to replace whatever juice peppers brings to the team
bradberry is fine...but he's not a number one corner. donte might be a good piece but also he might not, we've seen solid rookie performances by corners not turn out long term with Bene and to some extent Worley (and I would argue, Bradberry)
I'm not worried about the skills players on offense outside of Funch, certainly not worried about Cam, but this team has a ton of holes. 12/9/2018 4:39:21 PM |

The secondary will always look like garbage when you have zero edge rushers. The Panthers should take one in like each of the first three rounds of the draft.] 12/9/2018 4:42:48 PM |

that’s an easy lie you are telling yourself about the skill of this team.

^I mean, that's coaching. Getting beat over the top has been a hallmark of Rivera's defenses since 2011. If we aren't getting elite production from our front four, it doesn't matter who we have playing in the secondary.
Honestly, I love Kuechly, but middle linebackers don't make elite defenses in today's NFL. A smart move would be to cash in on his trade value while he's still young and healthy.
Who are y'all rooting for the rest of the season? I'm going with 'dem boys and the Chargers. Do it for Romo and Rivers!

dirty little secret is that Kuechly has been a half-step or so off all season
his numbers are still really good and his intangibles are still off the charts, but he’s been getting beat/missing tackles that he never would’ve missed in previous seasons 12/9/2018 4:56:27 PM |

This is ludicrous. He is so good in so many ways, but he's one of the best linebackers in coverage in the league. That is so important.
Fucking insane, trade Luke Kuechly. For what? A chance to maybe draft another linebacker that we would be incredibly lucky to approach Kuechly's talents? I know he's a liability but one hit could end any players career.
Luke is going into the HOF. He may Dan Morgan himself but it would be the height of madness to get rid of him.12/9/2018 5:14:01 PM |

Everything you just said is true, but when you look at the elite defense in today's NFL, they aren't built around elite middle linebackers who force TFLs in the run game. They are built around elite pass rushers and press man coverage. How times have we gotten a 2 yard loss, and then given up a pass over the top for a 1st down or TD a play later? You can't stop competent offenses between the 20s, the rules don't allow it. You need to capitalize on turnover opportunities, get off the field on 3rd down, and force field goals in the red zone. 12/9/2018 5:24:10 PM |

The team is honestly in a really rough spot. This could horrendously if the wrong moves are made. I think you shut Cam down and get whatever needs to be done with his arm done, and fire anyone who has a problem with that. But, as much as I've never been a huge Rivera guy, he's a guy who props up a defense above their talent level generally...and that's really scary with a team that is the worst in the NFL on defense since this losing streak started. 12/9/2018 5:32:00 PM |
GenghisJohn bonafide 10252 Posts user info edit post |
You don't fire Ron. You absolutely keep this staff together and try to fix this, it's the only answer that results in a team that could end up competing next year. Our problem is personnel. I don't know how we can fix that problem in one offseason, but changing the coaching staff isn't going to help that. 12/9/2018 5:37:02 PM |

For pass rushers you need small fast guys, I wish Marquis Haynes was getting more snaps. There's no more seven step drops that gives a pass rusher time to work his moves and get around the edge, you need people who can beat their man quick and take a straight line to the QB. A lot of feast or famine, but again, it's about that one play that generates a turnover or gets you off the field in the redzone. 12/9/2018 5:56:50 PM |

When Cam misses, he misses high and wide. That was a 20 yard fade that wobbled and died in midair. His arm is totally gone, he should not be playing. 12/17/2018 9:48:43 PM |
