we went last week. vaccine cards were required as were masks to be on at all times. they even gave straws with beers so you could sip while keeping your masks on

we felt super safe and it was so great seeing a show indoors

Taking my oldest son to GNR tomorrow night for his first concert. Finally convinced my wife to let him go (He's 9). We have 300 level tickets but I got front row so he won't have someone blocking his view. The setlist looks to be fantastic. This will be the third time I've seen them (All since the reunion).

Sturgill Simpson and his bluegrass band were incredible at the Outlaw Fest the weekend before last. Willie Nelson was pretty good, for an 89-year old.

Courtney Barnett coming to the Ritz in January! Her show a few years back at the Museum was one of the best I've been to in years.

at the Orange Peel the next night, and I’ve had tickets to that one for months now. if there’s ever an option between the Ritz and the Orange Peel, I’ll picking the Peel 100 times out of 100.

Well duh, of course the Orange Peel is better than the Ritz (the Ritz pretty much sucks). I'd go to the Peel instead if I still lived in Asheville, but I just don't have the option of driving up there on a Monday night. So I'll probably go to the Ritz instead so I can see her again.

I've only been to the Orange Peel once back in 2007 when Smashing Pumpkins played like 9 days in a row or something like that. I don't remember a lot about it though. Just curious what makes it better than the Ritz?

^how was the GNR show? I hate I wasn't able to go. I was watching some YouTube vids and it looked like they played some Link Wray as an interlude. Maybe an ode to a fellow north Carolinian?

^^I haven't been to the Ritz in many years, and the Orange Peel even longer. But the main thing I remember is the view of the stage. The Ritz has lots of spots where you can't really see the band. And I think the last time I was there they had a big platform in the middle of the floor that they use for Latino-line dancing, I think, but they didn't allow people on it. (and of course, Asheville is hipper than Raleigh).

The Ritz is owned by live nation, the Orange Peel is not.

Courtney Barnett rocked at the Ritz. She is so consistent. Loved their stage set-up.

It had been a long time since I'd been to the Ritz (has it been 10 years??), and it was actually better than what I remembered, although I think it's changed a lot since the last time I was there (for one, the entire upper-floor is now seated). We stayed on the bottom floor near the back, trying to avoid that Covid. We weren't shoulder-to-shoulder, and mostly had a clear view of the stage. Plenty of bars and bathrooms, no lines, and most people were keeping their masks on. (I also don't remember $12 parking)

WRAL should do a better job of differentiating the items that are allowed and those that are prohibited.

https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/what-you-need-to-know-ahead-of-raleigh-s-dreamville-music-festival/20204962/

I was reading through the list, thinking, "Wow, we're allowed to bring in hammocks... and fireworks... and weapons and explosives of any kind?!"

I saw Merle Haggard a few months before he died and he only played like 45 minutes at most. Still worth the $100 ticket.

It did. I was wondering if there was a 10 pm noise ordinance or something? The snooze fest opener coming on late and playing forever didn’t help.

meh. don’t think I’d blame her at all. it’s not like she’s an unknown artist. plus she’s local.

I’ve noticed that crowds have gotten much worse since concerts started to come back. more and more people having full blown conversations with their backs to the stage. I took a quick video of the opening of “Myth” and it’s damn near drowned out by multiple conversations going on around me.

and there had to have been a hard out at 10, because that ending was sudden with no hint of an encore
