daalians and I are getting married in December. Looking for ideas of where to get married/and or have the reception in or right around Raleigh. Considering the Museum of Natural Sciences? Anyone know anything about holding a reception there?

there's definitely a few reviews about having a reception in one of the museums, if not the museum of natural sciences, in this thread.

also... the mother load of NC vendors lists http://ncbride.blogspot.com/

Someone tell me where to get my wedding ring. I just want a cheap stainless steel/titanium ring, preferably comfort fit. Any recommendations?

i don't know anything about men's rings but I just started looking for something thin (width-wise), plain yellow gold (don't need a high carat tho as I am active and anything nice would get beat up quick), and comfort fit is all I know that I care about.

i got a tungsten band. mine was around $200, it's a pretty basic one. and anything short of a diamond file won't scratch it, which is good considering i tend to beat the hell out of rings/watches.

^^^^^ http://www.titaniumkay.com/ is where I got my husbands ring. I got it engraved for 20 bucks and the total was like $120 or something cheap like that. It came in the mail really fast and it looks great on. Love it!

somewhat on/off topic - my wife wants a cheap wedding band to wear when she doesn't want to wear her diamonds - considering http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2484022#reviews or http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2484020- anyone know of anything cheaper in the 2-3mm range

^Thats exactly what we just bought for my wedding band- the 2mm- but I think mine was closer to $120. We didnt do any price compairsons though cause I wanted to get mine from the same place that the engagement came from so if theres any problems we dont have to go to multi places.

yes! i was nervous about it at first, i did pick it out though. so far no problems!

his band is the same as mine, just 6mm instead of 4. it's on sale for $150 right now and engraving is free. we did get the 6-6-2 hardness tho.

I bought tablecloths through a hotel supply company. When I was done I sold them on E-bay. I basically "rented" my 20 tablecloths for 200 dollars.

If you have time watch e-bay.

Signed the contract today - we are officially getting married next July at the Wild Dunes Resort just outside Charleston, SC. They have a full service wedding coordinator included in my package deal, so all I have to do is find a band and a photographer. I do everything else through her! Absolutely cannot wait!

http://www.wilddunes.com/south-carolina-events.php

So question - for all the brides who had a destination wedding: should I hire a photographer I know in Raleigh and have him travel, or hire somebody local?

Again with space recommendations, please.

I have more details regarding my parent's vow renewal:
8/22, $200-$300ish (I don't remember for sure), and air conditioning is a must. I think she's now looking at 3-5 hours.

Any ideas at all? I can't find a damn thing. I've got one last resource to try, and then I have nothing. Since my primary job is in the events/hospitality industry, my mom is more or less totally dependending on what I can find (although she won't come out and say it )

pretty much. I don't know how to make her believe me when I tell her that.
Actually...I lied. I just called to confirm, and her budget is $250 for everything: food, space rental, decorations, and possibly a new dress.

45-50 people.

...The drugs she's on are legal

She'll do all the food herself. And by "herself", I mean "her, me, my sister, my husband, my dad, and whoever else she can guilt or force into helping". So...the food costs will only be raw materials, and I will throw some cash their way.

But yes, she has planned events before. She has done it lots, and lots, and lots. She's the go-to person for putting shit together - she's no n00b. She knows she's not going to get what she wants for that money, but she refuses to believe it. My statements of "Mom, you're not going to be able to do this!" are always met with "Well, did you try x, y, and z?". That's part of why I'm actually putting forth any effort.

Funny, she has no problem telling everyone else that they "can't" do something (things which are very reasonable), but just won't hear it when it's true for her.

...And writing that just reinforced how much she'd have tried to be a total momzilla and that's another +1 for eloping.
Like, I had planned to have flame lilies in my bouquet for a fall wedding in orange and maroon. They're a spring blooming flower. Ever since I mentioned this, she kept going on about how my grandfather grows wonderful flame lilies here in NC. Which bloom in the spring. And are purple and red, from his garden.

I could have dealt with her and prevailed on everything, but it's nice to have avoided all that together.

And then she's aghast and confused when I lose it and hang up on her

(This is also the woman who considers 7 people to equal "everyone" when it suits her angsty purposes. 5 people necessary to tell of the elopement beforehand [photographer, boss, two witnesses, and the officiant], and 2 who weren't necessary.)

Groom/Groomsmen:

Where did you guys get your tuxes from? It has to be a chain place because the groomsmen live in several cities. So far the only chains Ive seen are S&K and Mens Wearhouse- is either one better than the other? Or is there a better place?

S&K is going out of business, so that's probably not a good choice.

We did Mens Wearhouse, and it was actually great. Rent 4+, and the groom's is free. All of our guys got measured at different stores across the country. I think they each said their fittings took about 15 minutes. They were all sent to the Greenville location. They all arrived on time, and were perfect. Then the best man took them all back on Sunday. It was quite simple. You can look at what you want on the website, or go into the store and pick what works best. They even can show you the same look in different price ranges. We had a great experience with them.

We picked out what we wanted in March for a June 6 wedding. All tux fittings had to be placed by May 23 if you didn't want to expedite shipping. And in reality 4 of the 6 tuxes were ordered on the last possible day. So... really, any time before 2 weeks before the wedding. But for peace of mind, I got it in sooner.

^about the same time frame for us as well...also did MWTux w/ groomsmen all over. even the arrival sites for some of the tuxes were different, with the wedding in a different city.

their tux arrived in location A 3 days b4 the wedding. if there was a change order in the tux , the changed item/article arrived in location B, which was closer to the wedding, the day b4 the wedding.

it all worked out and everyone looked great.

it may be hard to see, but there are chains that hold the jar to the hook. the chains actually came off the basket/planter that the flowers in the first pic are in. just standard stuff from lowe's. we had the best florist in the world.

yeah! that's what i was going for with the nature thing. we had 2 japanese maples + ferns at the front for the ceremony, a few more at the reception tent. the orange flowers were cut of course but all the greenery was planted and people could take it home. we also had green orchids and money trees (those braided looking little trees). they came from lowes and the florist painted the pots orange. really simple.

I just placed a few big orders... thought I would share the best deals I could find

FAVORS:
http://discountmugs.com
If you sign up on their website, you'll get a 10% off coupon pretty quickly (along with lots of other unadvertized specials).
We are having Personalized 16oz Libbey Pint Glasses made
Cannot wait to see how they turn out!

TABLECLOTHS:
I didn't trust the reds, so I am still renting those.
HOWEVER, I did order 6 120" rounds from tableclothsforless.com
Found an extra 10% off coupon for them and free shipping, so they each ended up being a few dollars cheaper than the others that Gzusfrk posted (thank you, btw!!!... that's how I found this place!).
[discount code: T4L10 good for at least 60 more days]

Get her drunk and drag her to the courthouse before it's too late and you have to put a deposit down somewhere for a wedding.

oh now, you can have some pretty cheap nice weddings. We haven't had ours yet (coming up in Oct) but we will be spending <$2000 for 90 invited people. Of course this is with sheet cake instead of a fancy cake, an informal reception with hour d'oeuvres instead of a big meal, have friends volunteering to set up and clean up both the church and reception site. But we have a nice little cottage in raleigh reserved for the reception and it will be nice to see family and friends together there for a little bit.

Of course some people want a lot more and that is understandable, but there certainly are choices between a $15,000+ party and getting married at the courthouse.
