Serious thread. And not just because we lost 2/3 to Elon. This has been coming. We've been underachieving since Aaron Bates left.

Support is dropping yearly it seems as he loses his players. I've heard too much the players don't approve of him and many leave ALA Matt Mangini.

Last year's Regionals was absolutely terrible after the good ACCT run.

serious question...how much of college baseball success is attributed to the head coach, versus the position coaches? ie if Brackman struggles pitching how much is the head coach versus the pitching coaches

Well considering we only have 4 coaches total, I would say Avent is to blame for a good bit of it. This isn't football where each section of the team has a coach. It's been a combination of things here, not just the pitching, or the defense, or the offense. It seems its something different all the time.

Considering our sports at NCSU rule the shitter. Sorry you can't open your eyes and see that DY is going to try and fix this. We have a few good coaches already in place and starting to build (TOB, Kellie, Findley). Things are going to move upward. Thanks for the off-topic post though.

I think Avent really does love State but I think he's baseball's version of Sendek. No ACC championships, came close a few times and getting to a couple super regionals but not getting to the next level. Also have heard a lot about how he comes off as a dick personality wise to recruits some times. He and Sidney are the main 2 coaches I'd like to see replaced. Really want to see what Yow does.

Baseball cant really be fixed by a head coach, one day we win 17-4 the next we lose 12-2...its just player performance. No play calls like basketball / football. The pitching coach should be blamed if anything

Look getting in the NCAAT for an ACC baseball school is fairly easy. 8 made it last year IIRC. That is not a major accomplishment. Avent has been here since 1997 and has a 194-198 ACC record. Sure he's made 2 super regionals, but that's it. This is his 15th season and has not won the conference yet. He's definitely reached his ceiling. Added to that is the fact that we have lost a bunch of good players to transfer because they couldn't get along with him. This is going to be our third straight season without a winning ACC record and showing no indication of improvement or being on the rise. I think he's run his course, done a decent to good job, and it's time to move on.

Avent is mediocre at best. He brought in Holliday a few years back and I thought maybe the team would turn a corner, but alas just more disappointing seasons. Barring a deep tourney run, at least Super Regionals, he'd better be canned.

I like Avent, and I feel like he's someone who really loves being at State, but there's been reports of players transferring or not coming to State because he can be a really hard guy to get along with, we never capitalized on the '03 and '08 Super Regional runs and haven't won an ACC Championship since '92.

A lot of teams we were on even footing with when he was hired have passed us now. If we didn't have Lowe and Fowler to still pay then I'd be all for looking for someone who can pull in NC's top talent that hasn't been regularly considering NCSU.
