I'm sure the timing has nothing to do with it - he's on top of all kinds of appointments this year right? Not behind on any other, perhaps more important, appointments?

Trump already removing prosecutors in the districts he may be charged in. Gotta love it.

It’s amazing how fragile democracy really is.

All it would take for trump to get away with murder would be for republicans to hold the house and more pro trump extremists to replace the senators resigning. In districts electing republicans, are they going for moderates...?

If Ginsburg ends up retiring we could see decades of progress on civil rights, women’s rights, environmental policy get undone.

No matter what mueller finds for it to have a real impact voters would need to make the right choices.

Those charges seem prettt fucking serious.

And honestly, I see this ending very, very badly. Sessions/Trump are going to be working overtime to get HRC and Obama on something. You can see it coming. I hope our institutions hold..

Perhaps we need a new thread for the Mueller investigation, because it seems to me that the charges against Manafort and Gates are serious yes, but have nothing to do with Russia.

I mean, the head of the Trump campaign was engaged in money laundering with pro-Moscow Ukrainians. It seems at least tangentially related but your post is actually exactly what the WH talking points are..

^^manafort has signficant ties to russia, and the indictment itself is about one of those (hiding pro-russian ukraine payments)

Well, the key will be what information Manafort has.

WH claims he's got no info, but if he does, it could be country-changing.

But as the charges currently stand, there are still no official ties.

don't forget the blackmail texts:
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/paul-manafort-blackmail-russia-trump-235275

we now know the payments were real, and they claim that trump had direct meetings with pro-russian ukrainian assets, which then connects to trump's pro-russia ukrain peace plan, and pushing for a russian friendly GOP platform position regarding crimea, and also ties back to flynn, etc...

all this shit is related

I get that, I'm not trying to be intentionally obtuse. Just pointing out the charges didn't mention anything about Trump's campaign.

Trump Campaign Foreign Policy Adviser Pleads Guilty In Russia Probe
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/george-papadopolous-trump-russia-probe_us_59f7354be4b07fdc5fbfa210
Quote :
"WASHINGTON ? A foreign policy adviser to President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to FBI agents.

George Papadopoulos, 30, pleaded guilty on Oct. 5, 2017, but the case wasn’t unsealed until Monday, when two other Trump associates were indicted by a federal grand jury. Papadopoulos reached a plea deal with prosecutors, and has since been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Prosecutors’ statement of the offense alleges Papadopoulos “made material false statements and material omissions” during a Jan. 27, 2017, interview with the FBI. He was arrested July 27.

He told the FBI an overseas professor had “told him about the Russians possessing ‘dirt’ on then-candidate Hillary Clinton in the form of ‘thousands of emails,’ but stated multiple times that he learned that information prior to joining the campaign,” according to court documents. In fact, Papadopoulos was contacted after he learned he’d be joining the campaign, and the professor only mentioned the “thousands of emails” after he’d been on the Trump campaign for more than a month.

The professor, the statement indicates, had “substantial connections to Russian government officials” even though Papadopoulos claimed the professor was “a nothing.”

The stuff in the Papadopoulos plea is really juicy. Much more so than the Manafort/Gates indictments which seems more like typical white collar crime.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/30/politics/special-counsel-papadopoulos-small-part-of-large-scale-investigation/index.html

Quote :
"Washington (CNN)Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos' guilty plea Monday appears to hint toward even more threads of the ongoing Russia collusion investigation than what the court revealed.

Lawyers from the Justice Department's special counsel office have repeatedly hinted at how Papadopoulos would contribute to a larger, sensitive investigation.

"The criminal justice interest being vindicated here is there's a large-scale ongoing investigation of which this case is a small part," Aaron Zelinsky of the special counsel's office said during Papadopoulos' October 5 plea agreement hearing, records of which were unsealed Monday."

Quote :
""Revealing the defendant's plea would likely chill individuals to be interviewed in the coming weeks," the filing added.
In a transcript of his plea hearing, Zelinsky also referred to a "road map" it feared revealing about the larger investigation."

Democrats see your Benghazi and raise you Russia.

You know they don't have anything when they have to slow drip the little things they do have in hopes to draw a confession. If they had anything of substance on tape, they would've acted on it, just like if they had anything on anyone who was actually in the administration, they wouldn't have told us "stay tuned for arrests on monday" so we could hype it up all weekend.

Meanwhile, all of the attention is diverted away from our country's problems
