I thought we had weird substitutions tonight. Middlebrooks was hot in first half and got sent to the bench. Horne was hot and didn’t play at the end of the 1st half, maybe Keatts was worried about fouls. Taylor was playing great D and then didn’t play like the last 8 minutes but Parker plays for the first time.

As a side note and as someone else mentioned, I also don’t know why Ross never plays. Thought he showed some promise last year.

I'm not a basketball coach but Keatts substitution patterns are wild. Like, is Pass a buried bench warmer or a worthwhile sub in a needed game? Any given night he seems to pick Woods, pass or lj for less than 10 minutes. Are their games that unique to be that situational? Do they massive on/off weeks in practice? Morsell is seems to be the only consistent player but his game is not consistent.

Ross doesn't play because Ross is not very good at basketball. Diarra is better at every aspect of the game. Middlebrooks can actually score near the rim. Burns is burns.

as a fan who has been checked out for at least three seasons now, fire keatts or dont, i dont think we will be any better either way

pretty much given up on nc state basketball ever doing anything of note outside of a random surprising acc tourney run that ends in crushing disappointment

It’s my belief he will coach his last year remaining on his contract and not be renewed.

Ideally, he leaves on his own accord for another job.

Today’s questionable substitution: OConnel has hardly played the whole game because of foul trouble. Keatts puts him in for the last minute when we really need a basket. He is good at certain times but can’t shoot or usually create a shot. Not sure about that one.

I mean i understood why he put him in and took out Horne for the defensive possession (who had played like the entire second half up to that point.) Not sure why he kept him in for the final offensive possession. But we all know my thoughts on o'connell.

Two games in a row we have the ball at end of the first half and don’t even get a shot off. Might help if we didn’t wait until 8 seconds were left to do anything. Other than that no major complaints today. Maybe a little more time for Taylor and a little less for O’Connel and Morsell.

I think Keatts is an ok coach and seemingly good dude. His teams always play hard, there aren't character issues, and he is a reasonably good recruiter. Put that combo together in a non-power 5 conference and you are competing for the conference most years and maybe an upset in the tourney every now and then.

Drops another one at home that we needed. Again we kept it close but came up short. Another end of half sequence where we didn’t get a good shot off at the end of the game. Would like to see a replay to see if Horne was fouled.

I haven't watched the last few games...and that's a bummer because I have probably missed less than 5 in the last few seasons. This is generally my favorite time of year. I'm just over watching the same shit on repeat.

Another flat first half at home. It's admirable that they had the fight to come back, but if you can't get up for games with your already slim tourney hopes on the line...

Is there a real possibility he gets another year?

Reasonable expectations for any coach at State should be to make the tournament on a regular basis. I think saying you gotta make it every year is a bit harsh given the portal and roster instability. It’s fair to allow for a rebuild/down year every once in a while.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be making the tournament regularly and then every few years be in a position to compete near the top of the ACC with the right mix of veterans and experience on the roster. Which is kinda my expectation for football too.

Seems like a big need is to improve HS recruiting.

Agree. I'd say 4/5 years making the tournament with the occasional off year would be great at this point. And they can't be all barely squeaking in... a couple of those years should be solidly in with a chance to make some noise. That would mean double bye territory in the ACC which would give us a reasonable shot to win the ACC from time to time as well.

With NIL and the portal and the ability to build a roster quickly, I don't think we need to wait 4+ years to see this either. It's not unrealistic to see pretty immediate results if the coach is good.

I think reasonably 5 national championships in a row plus undefeated vs UNC and Duke with 20+ margins each game and maybe one game a season where they get a 2nd half lead just for us to go on a soul crushing run to get back to 20+.

Then we'll reevaluate after the 5 years, see how to improve.

Sadly it is that time. No hope with this team. A few weeks back against Syracuse was awful defense. Now today the 2nd half was one of the worst offensive halves of basketball I can remember.

Looking at the standing, we will finish only a few games over 500 and most likely bottom half of the ACC. Not good Keatts. I haven’t heard of any big time recruits next year to save his job.
