Welp. I'm here to eat some crow. I wanted the guy fired 2 years ago and didn't see any path forward for our team this year (or last year for that matter). He worked some magic in the transfer portal with Burns and Joiner and miraculously hung onto Baby T. Not only are they good, but Burns is just flat out fun to watch and root for. I honestly thought this was a straight throw away season before we started with a new coach next year. At the risk of jinxing it, this seems like the most solidly tournament bound team we have had since Herb. Kudos to Keatts for that.

I love that we finally have an inside game with Burns to get quality shots when the jumpers aren't going. It's much more rare for us to go ISO-ball and not run a set (although Terq still takes some headscratchers). Not sure if these are just coaching/philosophy adjustments or better talent--probably both.

I'd be surprised this was abled to be duplicated going forward (he hasn't had these kinds of hits on the transfer market prior), but I was dead wrong about this season. I also have my doubts that building with 1 year transfers is the way to go forward even with the way the system is now.

Yeah, my one concern is that we aren't built for consistent success of matriculating players like a traditional team. There is a good shot that all of our best players will be gone next season. But maybe he can continue to bring in ballers through the transfer portal as that's becoming nearly as important as recruiting HS and foreign kids.

Yeah the transfer portal and rebuilding a roster nearly every offseason is just the new norm. This burden can obviously be lessened by hitting on HS recruits at a better rate than KK has previously done. KK has had a lotta recruiting misses, some dudes that just didn’t belong in the ACC at all. I know not every recruit will be immediate impact. But a higher hit rate on HS dudes would help a lot I think.

I wasn't able to watch last night's game, and morsell usually takes decent shots, but part of T's problem has been his poor shot selection. NBA range pullups are fine when they go in, but when you are shooting like shit, they are offense killers.

it didn't seem like anyone moved their feet once the double team moved over to Burns. Morsell was either late to develop or was forced to take contested shots.


and yes, closing the gap to within two and then making 2-3 terrible possessions with bad shot selections absolutely killed the momentum.

Clark jacked a 3 and then air balled a floater after Joiner cut it to 2 (and then back to 4 after Duke answered).

I agree that we just clear out and let DJ go to work. Nobody moves to his side of the court or tries to cut. He throws a great skip pass to the opposite corner. But we don’t seem to do much to help him. I guess you spread the floor and dare them to double him and then hope he can hit the open man. But once the double team starts, we do a poor job of helping him

After ending the regular season (and ACCT) with a whimper, what's the play? I know he isn't gonna be fired, but as fun as the team was at points this season, we are still ending as a bubble team and that seems like a ceiling for Keatts. We are about to lose our 4 best players and barring another miracle in the transfer portal in the offseason, it's going to be tough to be as good next year.

Are we? Joiner is out of eligibility. T is surely going pro. Isn’t every body else at least eligible to return? I fully expect attrition. But we don’t have a clue who is coming back do we?

This is kinda the reality in CBB now for most teams. Keatts (and his staff) did a better job identifying portal talent this past year. In the past we’ve brought in guys that just haven’t been ACC level players. That’s been his biggest downfall…poor talent evaluation and wasting scholarships on bad players. Maybe he’s turning a corner with that? I dunno.

Gantt and Morsell also did their senior night thing, so it wouldn't be surprising if neither of them return. But yeah everyone besides Joiner is eligible for another season. This world have been Mahorcic's final season of eligibility but he is eligible for a medical redshirt.

Yeah he was very much on the hot seat coming into this season. It was NCAAT or bust. And he we made it. It was a fun season for the most part. The final couple weeks were a sour note to end on.

CBB rosters are always a lot of moving parts so there’s no telling what next year will look like.

I know message boards and Twitter aren’t necessarily representative of an entire fan base. But it sorta feels like we’re close to the point where, even when Kk does good he’s past the point of being able to win over a segment of the fan base. Doeren was kinda there a few years ago and I think for the most part has overcome it. I hope KK succeeds enough to do overcome it as well. It’s not fun treating every season and even every game as a referendum on the coach. But…it’ll take more NCAAT appearances and, finally, some NCAAT wins to start winning fans over.

feels like it’s at the point where most every game will be a referendum on him. And that’s not really fun. He’s clearly earned another year but not much goodwill beyond that. I don’t see next year being any different from this year in terms of him coaching for his job - at least in the eyes of the fanbase. I have no idea how Boo feels about it.
