seriously. If I really needed the time, I'd personally request it from a friend, with a promise to pay it back directly or compensate them in some other way.

To request a PTO donation is mind-boggling to me. This is why you should save your own PTO, ass-clowns.

I never said I would do it, as I'm sure I'll need it at some point down the road (I mostly just use it for Dr. visits). I've barely used my annual leave since I bank so much comp time. There's a cap on annual leave & if you don't use it, it just rolls over into sick leave (which remains unlimited). So I might just take a lot of random Fridays off in the near future, or just a week off to do fuck all.

we got emails alllllllllllllll the time about that when i was teaching. you really don't earn it quickly enough so i'm not surprised people needed it, just surprised they had the balls to openly ask for it.

So, I think I posted on here the other day about how a coworker completely half-assed some assigned work a couple of months ago, and I called him out on it and asked him what he was thinking, and he said "it's not important, that app is going away, and I didn't have time... plus we have two weeks of cleanup at the end of the cycle, so I'll do it then." Well, there's about 5-6 defects in it, and guess who gets to take the next couple days cleaning up his mess just to get to where the defects can be fixed? Yep, me.

Woman down the hall had a baby recently and came back to work today.....with the baby. Baby has been crying all day. As I walked to the bathroom this morning I spied a portable crib set up in her room and then I get to the bathroom and see a changing table put up.

I don't want to be a dick to a woman who just had a kid...but having a crying baby down the hall every day isn't going to fly.

Is that an office share type situation or does she work for the same employer? Either way -- that's unprofessional. I get the occasional need to balance child care, but you can't just bring your baby to work...

Yeah that does suck you would be surprised how many people dont start thinking about daycare until after they have the baby and their six weeks is up. Then they act surprised when places are like sorry we dont have room should have thought about this six months ago.

Kind of unique office situation. It's an old Charleston Single house. So there is a bar on the bottom floor and 5 offices up top...all side-by-side. I'm in the middle office. She is two offices down at the end. Old building, thin walls...so you can pretty much hear everything that goes on in all offices.

I'm the only dude that is surrounded by four fashion centered women (two clothing designers, one jewelry designer, and the new mom is a seamstress/"garment manufacturer")...which is normally pretty awesome, but now this baby is throwing everything out of whack.

I'm going to wait about a week and see if this is a permanent set-up before I say something. I really like this lady, so I don't want to be labeled as the woman/baby hater.

I think a casual conversation could give you the information you need without coming across like a douche.

"Hey, welcome back Bertha! How was your maternity leave? Here's this starbucks coffee i know you love. Have you picked a day care for little junior yet? He's so adorable, I know you're going to hate being away from him during the day."

Then if Bertha says she would never think of leaving junior in a daycare, you've got your answer without suffering through the week.

I love babies. But I've even asked clients to leave their kids at home. I can't give clear legal advice and know it's being digested and understood if a kid is screaming in/near my office.

Baby is currently wailing away.

I don't mind confrontation, but I don't want to be a dick to a mother with a newborn. I think I'm going to give it until the beginning of next week before I say something to the landlord. Hopefully she's just waiting for a daycare spot to open up...

So today the annoying guy at my job started cussing at me for no reason at all, so I got pissed off and yelled at him to leave me alone. I threw some boxes at him and management pretty much gave us a slap on the wrist and told us to not do that anymore. That should calm him down for a few weeks.

seems like that could easily be interpreted as being passive aggressive. wouldn't most people know that was obviously saying "hey, you need to quit bringing your baby to work"?

Kids at work are 100% not ok, especially a baby! I know several people that get migraines from the sound of a crying baby. Maybe jbrick needs to start bringing his dog to work with him. If the bitch complains then she can remove her more obnoxious beast first.

A guy brought a dog into work at our old office. It was really really chill, sat basically in one spot all day and most of us forgot it was there... until the guy with the lawnmower came by out of no where.

I use to bring my dog to work every day. Difference is that my dog doesn't bark and everyone loved him. Now my wife works from home and the dog stays there...and everyone misses him.

I'm starting to think these women are trying to force me out...and it might just work. The head clothing lady is starting to play her hippie music just a little louder and she was smoking weed heavily again the other day (2nd time in the last two months...I don't remember her ever doing it in the past three years, but she was in the corner office then, so maybe I just didn't catch it). The majority of my work doesn't have clients coming in and out, so it hasn't really affected my day-to-day business. But I'm close to bringing in a guy in where that should change. I might start shopping for another office location soon. Which sucks....because the location of my office is phenomenal....as is the low rent.

^Seems odd that they'd want the low maintenance dude with infrequent client visits out, unless they want a fifth woman to complete the set or unless one wants to expand into your office... Understand that if it's a separate office she can basically do what she wants but holy damn I could not be in the same vicinity as a crying baby all day. That would drive me up the fucking wall in a flash.

Today's minor annoyance brought to you by the cleaning staff. Our usual cleaning lady comes and empties all the desk trash cans after lunch. Very convenient as any trash that has an odor goes away before it can cause trouble. (Many of us, myself included, eat lunch at our desks.) This week our regular lady has been on vacation so we have someone different. She empties the desk trash cans mid-morning. Very unfortunate timing and I've been having to take my own trash out into the hall at the end of the day. /FWP

I work at a warehouse. The guy was talking shit to me for being lazy and calling me all sorts of ugly names even though I was doing the only task that there was to do at the time and I had had enough and told him to leave me alone. I wasn't quiet about it though. It's no big deal. What goes around comes around. He used to throw boxes at me when they rolled off the belt and would yell "QUIT THROWING SHIT ON MY SIDE!!!!!!!" That time all the management did was make him apologize and tell me how we work so well together when I went to management about it.

Imagine working with someone who is...

1) kind of an asshole
2) has a short temper sometimes
3) has to have everything his way
4) is kind of OCD
5) is kind of territorial
6) goes out of his way to avoid doing things he doesn't want to do (lazy)
7) and always takes the easiest task

That is what I have to put up with everyday.

i'm amazed an employer allows that, it seems like a great way for an employer to be an asshole (by not allowing additional time off for an unforeseen hardship) by letting employees give away time off that they earned themselves. the company can stand back and say "hey, we have this system that allows employees to give away 40 hours, look how progressive they are" while still being dicks. fuck all that noise.

I have worked for an employer in the past that allowed PTO donations, but the recipient would only receive half of the donated amount of time. I thought that was a pile of crap.

My job has unlimited PTO, max of 2 weeks at a time, and you have to ensure that your responsibilities are covered.

That being said, counting 2 or 3 sick days / emergencies, I've probably taken less than 10 days off in 2 years. Its honestly a good strategy. People don't stress out when they have times that they need to leave, and you don't get the end of year "oh shit i need to take my PTO or I will lose it". The "I need to take a week off" thoughts never really cross my mind because I always can take a week off.
