Most stories about Kanye say that he has always had an undeniable sense of his own momentum, that he just wouldn't be stopped and if not understood, at least believed at his core the same way you believe any inherent part of your identity that he would be whatever he is now. Personally, I really enjoy him as a personality, having watched him as an artist for over a decade now, but I think his current form in the last year or so has been on the upper limits of pure egoism, fed by his status.

More conference call madness: We have an open work area with 16 desks. There is a weekly conference call that 6 or 7 of us dial into. We're good about muting the phones when not speaking, but the problem comes when someone who is physically in the same room is speaking on the call. Due to the delay in the phone system and the fact that my headset only covers one ear I get a very unpleasant out-of-phase effect where I can hear the speaker as they say it in the left ear, and a few milliseconds later through the phone in the right. Really sucks.

(And no, we can't just all go sit around one desk and use a speakerphone, speakerphone is disabled on all phones in cubes or at open desks.)

when people leave their phone ringer on loud. Nobody cares that you are 45 years old and pretend to think dubstep is cool.

Don't want to hear it go off for a minute straight every single time you leave your desk

People who leave their phone ringer on at work. What adult doesn't use vibrate at all times anyways (other than obvious situations when a ringer is needed).

Coworkers who bitch about all the reasons their settlement numbers aren't good. And all the reasons they list are reasons every other person has to deal with too.

Coworker's surge protector goes off with any little power surge. Then it sounds a high pitched tone constantly to let you know. Of course he's never here when it happens and no one wants to pull the plug since his computer is on it...

It's even worse when recruiters fake the resumes and you ask the candidate about something on "their" resume. Needless to say, we don't take candidates from those recruiters anymore. I think they even asked us once why we didn't want their people, and our BA straight up told them.

one of my project team members has started using excel to comment on documents and drawings. he screenshots the document or drawing, pastes it into excel, and uses drawing tools to markup and random cells to write comments.

everyone here has access to both bluebeam and full adobe acrobat

Really? This is literally one of my favorite things about my job. It lets me know my spidey-sense for bullshit is still going strong. Plus I feel good for preventing a lying shiesty shit from gaining employment through me.

yeah, but if you have a hundred resumes to pore through it ends up just being a royal waste of time when you're trying to get someone hired on top of your normal day to day stuff.

When I was a hiring manager, I ran into this a lot. At first i'd get my hopes up when I saw a resume that practically matched the public job description, only to phone screen the candidate to find out they didn't know shit about shit.

but I couldn't really discard those really good looking resumes either because there was a chance they might be legitimately good.

so yeah the pain of wasting time on misrepresented resumes grossly outweighed any pleasure from that gotcha moment.

I had an associate who asked if I could pass her friend's resume to a colleague of mine. He didn't even bother looking at her resume because she put down e_money####@hotmail.com as her primary e-mail communication.

Minor details like this can kill your resume, folks.

My favorite email address I've ever seen on a resume for a professional gig was pinkbarracuda69@****.com.

That the guy (yes it was a dude) held 3 different CCIE certs, had worked on a ton of different bleeding-edge infrastructure projects, and was local, were the only things that saved his resume from the trash bin.

Too bad he showed up to the interview in a Hawaiian shirt.........

according to Google, it's called "Panther Pink" and was available in 1970. Not sure why he chose 69

If they were to have an onsite customer visit, and sent a memo for everyone to dress the part, then I wouldn't be able to count on that guy doing what he needs to do, if he doesn't even dress the part for the interview.

apparently I have to deal with 2 of these people!

a completely different person needed me to mark the locations of a few things on a architectural drawing. THEY SENT IT PASTED AS AN IMAGE IN AN EXCEL DOCUMENT!

not only do we all have Bluebeam, we've all had training and webinars on how to use it for this exact kind of thing. what the fuck is going on?

My kids send me assignments digitally, which is awesome. However, they don't include subjects in their e-mails, and they don't change the file names on their documents. Meaning I get e-mail's like

From: Student McStudent
To: Byrn Stuff
Subject:

untitled.docx

They also delete files after sharing them, which I'll never understand.

"Hey, Student, can you send me that file again? It didn't load properly."
"Oh, I already deleted that."
"But...why would you...?"

Probably deleted it so that they would have more time to do the assignment. Probably not coincidental that it's deleted and the original file is corrupted.

Ya, I'd considered that, but this year alone, I've had several kids turn in a rough draft and then inexplicably delete the file before turning in the final.

How about the jackasses who leave their ringers on in meetings, and then, when someone calls them but they don't answer, don't silence the ringer.

It's like I want to scream at them "push any fucking button on the exterior of your phone, it will stop!"

You're being naive. They aren't doing that inexplicably. They're establishing a pattern of behavior that adjusts your expectation of what is normal so that when they take advantage of you like this kid, you won't notice how odd and stupid and wrong the contrived circumstances are.

More like if you're going to go interview with a company where the culture expects you to present yourself in a formal manner like a bank or a financial institution, you do it because you want the job.

If you're interviewing for an IT start-up, show up in a tiara and pink tutu for all I care. They probably don't.

Guy at work doesn't wear clothes that fit him (not to mention they aren't workplace appropriate to begin with), so every time I turn around, I see his hairy ass-crack. I'm about two shakes from complaining. Dude, wear a longer shirt, and a belt, and tuck your shirt in. You're a computer programmer, not a plumber

The discrepancy between the site dress code and my employer's dress code. They're casual, we're business casual (ie a strict "no jeans" rule among other things.) It can annoy me in either direction though--some days I think "why am I stuck in slacks when everyone else is in jeans" and other days I think "why did everyone who isn't on our team dress like a slob today". A minor annoyance, but one nonetheless.
