Greeks kicking ass, hell yeah

The Greek word for nightmare, efialtis, actually comes from the name of the man who betrayed the spartan 300 at thermopylae - my folks on my dad's side actually come from a place not far from there

I can't wait to see this, I never knew this graphic novel existed - looks ridiculously hardcore

This is the first ancient movie involving battles I have seen filmed this way. It looks too good.

on another note, I want to see a full phalanx. Dont know if its possible though

seems like its close to being done with the amount of footage in that trailer so I think it will be early 07. Unless they want to release it at a certain time in 07

^^^ W.T.F.

Sure, Sin City was filmed like a comic instead of like a movie and that took some of the urgency out of it, but Miller is a badass.

His new Batman/Robin with Jim Lee has been kinda lame, but whatever.

^ Eh, it's all about who's running the show. Tarantino's scene in Sin City was great, because he focused on the situation at hand, not a perfect replication of the comic. Comics are comics and movies are movies, and you can't expect one, no matter how brilliant, to translate as brilliantly to the other medium without some modification.

I'm biased, as well. I've gotten extremely sick of this trend of movies based on comics.

You're in the minority on that one.

I generally prefer original stories in films, but adapting them from comics is no worse than adapting them from novels.

Well I certainly think material for a movie can come from most anywhere- that doesn't bother me. It just feels like everyone jumped on the "We need to adapt comic books!" bandwagon.

Yes, but the entertainment industry is all about bandwagons, because they make money. Adapting films from comics is nothing different than:

"Hey, let's make teen titty flicks!"
"Hey, let's sign one of those punk bands!"
"Hey, let's hire a guy who can write Dan Brown-y books!"
"Hey, let's make a sequel to our teen titty flick!"

Don't let the overall shittiness of Elektra (just as an example) and the poor directorial choices of Sin City keep you away from an awesome story told through an awesome filmmaking process.

at least sin city was a well done one though. i hadnt read the comics, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. they may jump on the bandwagon, but they are original at the same time.

this fantastic 4, hulk, daredevil, etc bs though is getting tired.

i think i just view this as a part of the greater overall trend to only make adaptations of previous stories, sequels, or remakes. original, groundbreaking material sells when its good (the matrix).

i thought the Dark Knight Returns was the biggest piece of overrated trash ever printed in the history of comics.

I really didn't like what he did at the helm of Daredevil

and the whole Terminator/Robocop mini-series didn't deliver shit.

Plus his previous foray into movies before this was Robocop 2 and Robocop 3. We ALL know how good those were.

I like what he's done lately, but I don't hold him in as high regard as most comic fans do.

As opposed to most movies which come out are a script recycled from a movie anywhere from 5-60 years ago with different actors. The reason why so many comic book movies are coming out is because they finally have the cgi to make them. Sure there are shit movies like daredevil and fantastic four, but to hate on Sin City and compare it to the "comic book trend" shows you have no eye for originality or cinematography.
